My dog is 11 months old and recently started scratching more than usual. I use the furminator twice a week and I don't see any signs of flees. What is the best shampoo or anything I can give him to help with always itching? Also, I heard that some people give their dogs coconut oil on daily has anyone tried this.

    So many reasons for itching.
I agree with Ging ;) above - first call is to ask vet and exclude something that needs vet treatment

    Agreed. First stop, the vet.

Twice a week with the furminator sounds like a lot, though I don't use one. I know you can overuse the furminator and ruin coat and I'm afraid I would. IS he shedding right now? Maybe that's the cause of the itch. What about trying just a brushing every day? I really like a slicker brush, a zoom groom and a rake. The zoom groom's soft rubber can massage skin and help circulation of blood to the area and bring oils to the coat, oils that are needed. Always a good idea to check with a VEt, you don't want to massage infected skin, for instance.

Check the humidity levels in your home with a hygrometer. Sometimes an easy fix in winter is simply proper humidity levels. Air conditioners also dry out the air, not as much usually.

Axel was scratching quite a lot before I figured it out that it was a food allergy. I never bathed him but I did switch his food after the vet checked him over and suspected a food allergy
