My lovely boy has managed 4 weeks (today exactly, not that I have OCD about keeping a note of dog training issues or anything) of NO SQUIRREL RAMPAGES in the park. Squirrel rampaging was one of his favourite pastimes until recently! Been using his new love of retrieving, in the park we have been using his still favourite silly puppy latex ball instead of the dummy. I started just booting it around the park getting him really excited chasing about, and gradually built in some gundoogy stuff with it, so he now gets some wild chases but also chases on command only, steadiness before racing after, with waits while I throw it, and a new routines where he will do a Down, wait in down while I walk away, get back up to a sit up (all on hand signals only, I'm right chuffed about this!), and a Wait while it is thrown before the command to get is given. he really really enjoys this and is always at Full Wag. And today we did this routine in SIGHT of the Squirrel Zone! Very pleased with my gorgeous gangly Black Lad

Amazing Debsie and Brodick, very well done you so deserve it and I bet the squirrels are relieved too ;D Your not alone with the note taking, my note book is almost full : I get a lot of pleasure seeing Charlie do the down/wait and up into a sit with hand signals at a distance too Quite clever I think 8) Very well done again, you sound so chuffed. Now let me see if I can HELP YOU Karen ;D ;D I of course started my training indoors along the hall way, firstly getting Charlie to sit and wait with verbal and hand signals, walk away a few meters go back and treat, spent a few weeks on that exercise. Then I repeated this exercise for the down and wait. Progressed to combining these exercises randomly with verbal/hand signals increasing the distance and treating. When Charlie was 100% solid I then started to drop the verbal command to just hand signals and then progressed to the garden increasing the distance slightly each time, now Charlie will do these in the garden at about 20 meters just with hand signals also out and about with our Total Recall training just to keep up the practise. Good boy Brodrick......now tell Dexter what to do so he doesn't look like the Lion of England when we sight past 'the' park rabbit !!! Go Helen,ill learn from that too ...Dexter will sit at distance and stay but not a lie down......I've got him lying and waiting for me to call him to his tasting plate dinner on you advice too......he has to do something obedient besides just sitting and looking at me!i can't do away with the feeding bowl,completely,it just feels wrong,I know it's silly :-[ Sometimes it's just a Tapas size portion of kibble for his dinner ;D x
