Boy! It has been a long 7 weeks! Bramble after a stop start season is almost at the end..she stopped bleeding a few days ago...and her behaviour and that of our 2 male dogs is more like normal, phew! Still a few more days to be on the safe side, but the end is in sight. Bramble lost a bit of weight and condition, over the last 6/7 weeks but is starting to look better now. Can't wait to get back to gundog training with her!
Wow, that has been a long time! Are you intending keeping her entire Kate, or are you thinking of having her spayed?
I think Bramble probably stopped half way through then started again..only I wasn't prepared to take the risk of taking her out where she would encounter other dogs, as err...she has a tendency to let other dogs know her mind if they get too close, she can be a little sensitive, and more so during her season. I am not sure yet what we are going to do. She is too young to be spayed, the vet also agreed, still looks rather juvenile, i terms of build and behaviour. If she has her second season late, then any clinical benefits of spaying her disappear, I am loathe to spay for reasons of convenience though.
Well, protection against pyometra doesn't disappear. I agree with you about the not spaying for convenience, although it must be tough with two male dogs. Casper is neutered, right? And Benson had a suprelorin implant, was that just a one-off? I'm interested how different people manage their entire male and female dogs together.
Yes Casper is neutered, Benson's implant is a one-off, it is mostly worn off, although he will still be sterile for a few weeks, the sexualised behaviour is now evident, other dogs are aware he is entire now. Very good point re: pyometra, probably the main consideration.
