I had a rope one but I found it wore out quite quickly. It was quite cheap so may have been poor quality. I have since bought a nylon one and it's much better. I have a 6 month black lab so I have a 10mm thick lead. Seems perfectly suitable for me.

Am also looking after WGT said my rope one (which I quite like) is too thick to slip properly. That is, the ring has to be big enough, and the rope (or nylon) thin enough, so the cord slips easily through the ring when tension is released.

Sorry, not much help, as haven't found anything yet...was going to wait until London where I know of a huntin' shootin' fishin' shop that might stock them so I can inspect before I buy.'

My only criteria is that they are brightly coloured otherwise I lose them. ;D I have got this awful habit of taking them off and leaving them laying on the ground. ::)

One of the trainers I've been to would live you! His pet hate was leads on the ground, he used to nick them if you left them around and you'd have to ask for it back

I know, Barbara, it is a cardinal sin to leave a lead on the ground. I am ashamed of myself. ;D

Popular at our training is the Clix Premium Slip lead.
It used to be the Trixie Mountain Rope Retriever Lead, but a change in quality meant that the rings were less sturdy and had a tendency to snap with bigger pulling dogs.
Both these leads have a second ring that can be used either as a stopper to prevent "strangling" or to create a figure eight lead over the nose (I know, not a popular method here on the forum).
I have just bought a new Ancol Nylon slip - 10mm - which I find nice to hold, and I think will be quicker drying cos ours is always getting dropped too ::) or muddy :( and we got it in a nice girly purple colour ;)

Barley has got an ancol one, i cant remember what thickness it is but it was the tickest of the two, i prefer the newer style of these as they use leather to attatch the handle to the lead and a leather stopper, rather than than the old ones which were plastic and broke, which is why we had to replace it.

Puzzle has not got one yet, but when she is older she will get one, or i might make one, but she is still only learning how to walk nicely when she sees other dogs and people, so we have a few months to go

I brought a lovely thick soft one at crufts but it didn't have a make on it which is a shame as I'd love another. I did have a nylon one but more than once got a rope burn while he was training and still lunging /pulling.

I'm definitely all for bright colours in case they're dropped.

I just treated myself to new ones while on holiday made by Ruffwear no idea if you can get them in the Uk but they're made of climbing rope or very soft yet very strong. They have excellent moulded stops and an ingenious extra loop near the handle to tuck poo bags into. They also have reflective bits which pick up the lights if you're walking in the dark. My only criticism is that they are rather too long but they're very comfortable to use so all in all a good buy.
