HI, I have a 9 week old yellow lab. Ive read mixed things about starting adult food, kids, and amounts. Can anyone advise on brands/kinds, amounts etc? Thanks so much.
He should be on some form of puppy food until at least six months, then either stay on that or, depending on brand, move to a junior food until 12-18 months. Again, this varies from brand to brand. The question of what food crops up time and again. Have a little search and you'll see there is no single answer. It's about what suits your puppy. He should stay on the food he came home on for a few weeks, then, if you do want to change, do it gradually, over a period of a week or more.
As for amount, I'd say ignore what it says on the pack, because that's normally far too much for Labs. Instead, judge it on his body condition - if he's getting a bit porky, cut back. If he's too skinny, add a bit more.
As snowbunny says, there is no simple answer to this one. Buy the best food you can afford for your wallet. In the UK we often direct people to https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/ and there is an equivalent US site (with a name like Huck I'm guessing that would be more use to you!) but I couldn't find it. Sorry. I'm sure one of our US friends can supply it. Even with this advice, its guesswork. How much do you believe review sites? Basically, stick to an age-specific food, maybe a breed specific (but less important), feed (probably) about 2/3rds of the "recommended" amount, and watch your pup/dog's size and shape. For size and shape, maybe check out the How much does your puppy weigh? section https://thelabradorforum.com/threads/how-much-does-your-puppy-weigh.5888/
