I took Sam to the woods this afternoon , where we chanced upon a lovely young family , Mum, Dad , boy around 12ish and a little girl, ironically called Millie, who was around 8 years old . For those who don't know , Millie was the name of our little darling dog who died nine months ago . This Millie took a shine to Sam immediately , it was reciprocated as Sam is absolutely potty about children , he just adores them , so he was happy for her to play ball with him , paddle in the shallows of the river with him , and generally hang out . As the walk drew to a close , Sam handed his ball back to Millie , and , as we were close to the lane , I slipped his lead on , whereupon Millie asked if she could hold his lead . We walked to our respective cars , Millie sad to be saying goodbye , her Mum asked if she could take a photo of the two of them together . This became even more poignant when she confided that Millie was hopefully in recovery from cancer , and that this meeting with Sam would have made her day as she loved dogs . I told the Mum that it was ironic that Sam was also a cancer sufferer , and we exchanged e mail addresses , so that I could send the promised photos of Sam to his new best friend who by now was crying at leaving him . I wont ever forget this chance meeting , it was special x
Oh Kate it sounds as if your chance meeting really was bittersweet - I know I shed a few tears reading it. Sam is such a special boy who spreads happiness wherever he goes.
Yes, a very special meeting. Perhaps you'll be able to meet again? It's lovely that Sam enjoyed playing with Millie.
Oh my. I bet you sat in your own car and had a cry. Would it be good for everybody to try to meet up again?
They were on holiday , so sadly I doubt we will meet again as they were travelling further west , but the memories remain x
Perfect memories which will never be forgotten, both Sam and Millie will have comminicated wordlessly and may their bond heal them both.
After all the blood sweat and tears memories like this are the things which help and sustain. All the rest of the stuff doesn't seem to matter. Hope you enjoy many more wonderful days.
