    hi there,

So... we are bringing home our little fur ball in 2 weeks (where he will be 9 weeks old), my partner and I have decided to feed him on purely raw food (no veg or anything) and are going to be making dehydrated treats for him.

My question is - his dehydrated treats will come out of his daily allowance, but once dehydrated the treats will weigh significantly less than the raw meat that is his breakfast lunch and dinner etc. Maybe I am being silly here but how does that work with his allowances? Do we take the raw meat weight and dehydrate that and that's what is left for his other meals or do we make a batch of treats and take the weight of the dehydrated treats out of his allowance. (My worry is we feed him too much or too less)

Any advice would be amazing as I am baffled!!
    Thank you :)

The weights will be based on the meat including the water, so do your weighing before dehydrating. I hope you have a good dehydrator, because we go through a LOT of treats!

Another thing to consider is that training treats should be quick and easy to eat, so soft and small is best. I often cook a whole chicken or joint of beef, pork etc, and cut that up for treats. I freeze batches and get them out every couple of days. I'd have thought that would be easier than dehydrating everything - for both you to make and pup to eat :)

Oh I see that's better understood now! Thank you for the answer!! So we would just weight his daily allowance, take a portion out of that for treats and then that would be that?

If he is on completely raw would he be okay eating cooked meat for treats then? I assume he is fine but just to check as my partner is doing more of the reading about foods than me (I am in charge of the training research;) )

Obviously cooked meat would be easier and quicker than dehydrating everything... We are still looking for a dehydrator as they're so expensive and as you can imagine... The first months before he arrives are extortionate getting everything ready haha!

    Thank you again :)

Yep, absolutely fine. Technically, some of the nutritional value will be lost, but if needs be, you can just increase the quantity of his allowance to compensate. And, obviously, no cooked bones :)
