Question about growth patterns

I agree and that photo may not be the most flattering, but does make him look big. But, as others have said, it takes a while for everything to even out. At 7 months, he's not nearly mature, so has a fair amount of changing to do yet.

 

I worried about Oban for a while. I had to adjust his collar bigger twice in a short time yet his weight stayed the same. If his head was growing bigger along with his neck it must have been empty. Behaviour at the time seemed to often confirm this.

 

I was only having a similar conversation with my daughter a couple of days ago about Cassie changing shape, at the moment she seems quite long in the body. I'm lucky enough to know both her parents, indeed the reason I have her is that her mum is such a lovely dog, normal size for bitch I would say and has a delightful sweet face/head. Cassie's dad is big and I hoped she would take after her mum, she was the smallest in litter and I chose her cos she looked like her mother --- but she goes through phases of looking more like her father, who is also lovely but is boxier around the jaw and muzzle. At 10 months Cass is 30.5 kg (67lbs) and.....is skinny!! She's very broad in the head and body.

 

Thanks so much, everyone, for sharing. I guess he's running the typical course of development then. What I am reading in everyone's responses matches what I am seeing.

It seems he's in an awkward teenage stage! I was concerned he was a little chunky, but the vet wasn't at all concerned about his weight when he was there last week. He is a BIG boy, which may explain why his head looks so small for his body. We will just love him through this dorky stage I guess!!

My friends much loved and sadly missed lab danny had ears that looked like a matadors black hat. They stuck out just like bobbly bits in the hat he was adorable. He was one if the original members if the black dog gang

 

they do go though a period of looking like a few bits of lab sown together

Absolutely! Bramble has grown in a really bizarre fashion..her neck has had a growth spurt...yup..her neck..Just ordered her a new collar..( yes really I had too..) but boy it's a seriously awesome collar!

Sorry to detract from the thread...but..

 

This was Sam at nine weeks , absolutely ridiculous in a sweet way ! His ears were huge , as were his feet . Slowly he grew into his ears but he never did grow into his feet which are huge ! He looked like a gangly colt at around six months old , but somehow , they all end up beautiful , all of them x

No, everything about Sam is just perfect

 

When Cooper was a puppy (see her avatar) we thought she might be related to Dumbo, the flying elephant. She still has pretty big ears and feet. Big feet are a great help negotiating in snow. Our first lab Ginger weighed 80#, but had fairly small feet and sank in the snow more than Cooper who is 85# and 24" at the shoulders.

Ziggy has jyst gone 6 months and has been desexed. His father is a very large dog and ziggy is lije his dad. At 6 months he is 37kg he loves sundays as that is new marrow bone day.
