Hi all, my lad Brodie is not 3 until July, he has already started to show silver flecks on his bottom lip and under muzzle - I can probably answer my own questions in that dogs like humans all age/mature differently? He is chocolate by the way. Anyone have any views or opinions to add or explain why he seems to be greying in my opinion at such a young age.
I have no opinions as to why, but my Pomeranian started to get a grey muzzle at 2.5 years old. He just turned three in December.
Hi Neil, I was reading up about the history of the Labrador breed just yesterday and there are some interesting theories regarding the greying of muzzles and paws in the labs. Go have a read about the breed St Johns dogs and Labradors. I wll try to find the website to link to you.
Here we go: http://www.lorkenfarms.com/labrador Retriever history.htm I can't guarantee the validity of the information on the site, but it was a sweet thought and interesting read
My Rottie Brogan started to go grey at 3.5. At first it made me sad ("My baby's getting OLD!"), then I thought he looked quite distinguished. He didn't slow down otherwise - he was still a goob - just a little snow on the snoot.
No idea why , except that like humans , some go grey earlier than others and some never do ! Sam is coming up to six now and has many grey flecks which probably started when he was around four , now on his legs as well as face x
Our black lab BJ had a fine white stripe down his chest. He was KC registered from a very good working pedigree. His sire was black, dam yellow. The litter was 13 pups all black but 4 of them had this fine white stripe. Anyway, BJ started developing a grey muzzle and eyebrows from the age of 2. Regardless, the most wonderful, adorable lab you could find. But then we all say that don't we?
My Rourke who was six in January is quite grey under his chin, so pleased to read your boy is equally distinguished. Mine also goes back to Banchory Bolo, he has a white stripe on the back of his right leg just above his paw and a fainter stripe on the other leg.
Our first Lab, Ginger lived to 16. By that time she had so much white that she looked like a Hereford. Face, Chest and Paws were all white. Tilly at 11 has a grey muzzle and some grey on her paws. She says it makes her look distinguished. Cooper says it makes her look old.
