Amy is humping me after we play in the garden. We arent out for long but I guess its still part of the over excited/tired pattern? I just thought to myself one more thrown before she gets all humping, turned my back to come in and she jumped me. This time scratching my arms and breaking the skin. My thighs look like I have been whipped the the marks down them!

When she starts I turn my back on her and try walking away (Hence the bruises on my legs) . But she just keeps going, I hope the neighbours cant see!

So when we get in should i give her a time out? I keep thinking in the few seconds it takes to get in the house she will have forgotten what she has done?

    Any advice for me?

You could try putting her on the lead when you have finished playing. Maybe do a couple of sits and a few yards of heel work to give her a chance to wind down and refocus after the excitement. If she starts to jump up at you simply stand on the lead and wait a couple of moments until she has calmed down.

PS Never think 'just one more throw' , before you go out into the garden decide how many times you will throw the ball, dummy or toy, lets say 2 or 3 times, and stick to that number. :D

I force myself not to do the one more throw now.....it's difficult but I've had some really great training sessions spoiled by 'just one more' :)

Hebe used to go crackers after a retrieval session, not humping just general whizzing and butt-tucking. I think it was that she'd held in all the energy to work efficiently and she just had to explode. As Heidrun has suggested, I would finish a session with a sit and stay and then short heal work routine which ultimately led straight into the house, a quick rub down and I'd leave her to settle down. The last throw was always marked with a 'last one' call so that she knew, eventually after the last one was returned she'd drop back to heal and wait for the little walk routine back indoors.

Yes I too have had to force myself not to throw that extra one time. I say to Charlie "last one" and then "lets go" where upon he goes straight to the gate, sits/treat and we go indoors. He quickly realised there were no more throws ::) Good luck. Helen x :)

I had no idea girl dogs did this?
Rosie hadn't done it before - but she's been done (when she was 5 months).
    Is Amy done yet?
I'm sorry I don't have any advice other than maybe a knee raised up like when they jump up and a firm no?
I don't feel confident in advising others as I feel so clueless myself but I'd be beside myself if, amongst other things, Rosie started trying to hump me too!

    Good luck xx
