    Hello,

I am new to this forum but I"m sure I will become a regular.

I have a 4.5 month old black lab named Minnie. I was curious if anyone had issues with Acana large breed puppy. Specifically, relating to diarrhea as she has had issues with it prior to but recently its been complete water and some reading online has said that its a normal thing with Acana due to the high protein count.

Any input would be appreciated, thank you!

    Hi there and welcome!

I don't know a whole lot about this but I wouldn't think that any food should cause complete liquid poo. That would not be healthy for the dog. It could be that you are feeding too much, which can cause runny poo. Often the amounts given on the label are too much for most dogs. It is better to go by how the dog looks than by the recommendations on the label. The dog should be lean, with a noticeable waist when viewed from above, and ribs easily felt along the side (but not sticking out noticeably).

I have always fed Acana and have had zero issues. You could be feeding too much or there is an ingredient that doesn't agree with your puppy. Might take some trial and error before finding the right kibble for her.

Are you sure she is having such liquid poo from her kibble? She couldn't have eaten anything she shouldn't have to upset her tummy ?

She was at the vet and is on antibiotics for eating rabbit poop (had caused a little throwing up) however I was advised once she started pooping regularly again, to put her back on her kibble. I will be calling the vet this morning to ask them about it. I was just curious if people had similar issues.

Feeling very overwhelmed and frustrated the last few days, clearly we are hitting the "teenage" years.

Has your dog had diarrhoea for a while or is this new?
It could be related to eating stuff she shouldn't - like rabbit poop or the contents of your bin or illicit hedgerow carryout throwaway  - or it could also be related to the antibiotics from the vet.
Sometimes dog poop is a lot softer with overfeeding too. So, too much at one meal, or too much full stop. Packets always over-estimate quantities required we would reckon.
I'm assuming all her worming and flea treatments are all up to date?
Although some of us find our dogs are a bit loose or vomit-y after getting these treatments too.

I have a dog with a cast iron stomach pretty much now, but she was awful as a puppy for loose poops when changing food around.
    So many variables.
