Well starting making a list of items I'm going to need but with so many choices of whistles what is best for starting out for a new pup. Thanks

I use the Acme one. I think most members here do too. I tried the silent one first, but it annoyed me as it never sounded the same as it never stayed tight in the same place

Yup, I think most people will tell you the Acme ones are best. Either the 210.5 or the 211.5. Get a couple.

And don't forget to buy a lanyard to hang the whistle on :)

Definitely, personally I like a 211.5 and have bought both my whistles and lanyards from Gundog Lanyards. There is a lot of choice out there, I just like shopping for anything to do with my girl, and these happen to catch my eye.

I use an Acme 211.5 as well. However my (adult) son simply whistles with his mouth and Molly comes just as well to him. He always makes a huge fuss of her and plays with her. So whatever whistle you choose, you need to make an association between the whistle and food /play.

FWIW the major advantage to the Acme is that they always have the same pitch, and if you loose it you can buy another one that will still sound the same. Your dog doesn't have to learn a new whistle sound. Also they are not very expensive and don't take up much space hanging around your neck.

Feeling like the odd one out - 210.5 for Harv ;)

Add a second whistle to your keyring - it's no fun when you forget your whistle after doing all that recall training! :)

Don't feel odd @UncleBob ! I use the 210.5 for Coco too. I try to remember to put it around my neck when I go out, but there should be one in my pocket too... time to get another one for the keyring ;)

I also use 210.5 - it's what W&S came with from the breeder, so I just stuck with it. If I were choosing, I'd go for the 211.5, just for the extra distance it carries.
