Our Tico dog, Winchester, went on his daily hike with our neighbors up Poas Volcano and came home with a face full of quills! We were able to remove about 20 with pliers and went to the vet this morning to have the remaining porcupine quills removed. We were very impressed with the vet here in Grecia, Costa Rica. They were very professional and caring! Did Chester learn his lesson....we doubt it!

Did the Vet send antibiotics home with you? Porky quills are greasy and dirty. OUr Ess was given antibiotic but then she had over 200 in her and was anaesthetized to get them all out. 212 actually, our Vet counted and it's the number of the house I grew up in.

Poor Chester, I bet the worst part was pulling them out since they are barbed and it must hurt to pull those barbs backwards. WE asked our Vet if they learn and he gave us an analogy. He asked, "Did you ever have a hangover? Did you ever have a second one?" LOL.

Can't see your photos. You need to use some kind of online photo sharing service here.

Ouch! How awful. Do hope Winchester is ok... I'm sure he'll never go near another porcupine again!
