This looks worth a watch: Me and My dog: The Ultimate Contest Airing tonight on BBC2 @ 8pm "Sees eight humans and their eight dogs compete to prove who has the best bond. It's a ridiculously charming four-part show with stupid challenges and lovely dogs who, despite everything, are prone to stopping for a poo in the middle of a competition." http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-04-05/meet-the-cast-of-me-and-my-dog-the-ultimate-contest
Haha! Just read it...admittedly glossed over that one..once I got to "My little princess" I switched off...
I thought it looked pants in the preview and some of the activities looked a bit risky but was going to watch it on principal as oh made me watch Masterchef but it look like it my get too irritating . Hearing someone call a lab thick well that's just silly
Well, who watched it?! I was intrigued by the idea - mostly because I wondered how they planned to measure "bond". I only caught the last 20 minutes or so but the challenges were a bit ridiculous - the task in a waterfall seemed dangerous for the dogs and I'm not surprised at all that one of them was injured, and then the bike-racing challenge was just stupid, pitting a little norfolk terrier against much bigger dogs without any time handicap. And obviously a dog's prior training is going to affect how they respond to these challenges so any test of "bond" or communication needs to take that into account - are the dogs being asked to do something that they've previously been trained not to (i.e. running ahead). I'll probably keep watching it, because even a bad programme with dogs is better than most other programmes, but it was a disappointing start for me.
I watched it, well sort of - all the excitement of dogs on the telly threw Ripple into a frenzy - barking, jumping up, trying to play bites games with me . I wasn't very impressed with the program, thought the water part looked quite dangerous.
I enjoyed some of it...when the brought on the behaviourist to talk about the science of right/left pawed dogs, and body language. Tbh, I was a bit shocked by the water event, practically rapids at the end! Thought swimming across a lake or large pond with stations would have been far easier and safer. The owners left a lot to be desired, a woman who basically called her lovely labrador thick...I thought what a bright dog to be able to filter out her awful screechy voice! A man who clearly felt he had to the "master" and the dog a "dog". Err....he agreed he had a far bit to learn about communication.
I didn't bother I saw them going up the rapids in a preview and thought nope thats too dangerous I wouldn't put my guys through that to get on telly
I thought it quite interesting! I am sure a lot of 'pre training' went on behind the scenes. They were ridiculous tests and some dangerous. However, the group seemed to have bonded and the dogs seemed happy, I am sure they will have learned a lot. I thought the signally with the eyes was crazy, yes you can get a dog to look you in the eye, but unless you make a subtle body movement, the dog has no idea! I could be wrong of course
