Just curious about this since he is my first Lab of my own. I know hes not the norm when it comes to puppies. He was the most laid back and relaxed pup of a litter of 11. His brothers and sisters were defiantly live wires. My pup Sarge was the biggest in the litter at the moment he is 9 weeks old. He's pale yellow but i can already see he going to darken up some.
I admit that Lilly is now almost 7 and my memories is rubbish at the best of times, but I can't remember her being so difficult a pup as many here have had to cope with I think the forum might be a bit biased with its members - more people needing help might end up on here than those that have a straight-forward well-behaved puppy? jac ...and welcome to the forum!
At home, Harley has always been very chilled and laid back, sometimes to the stage of being lazy Being out on walks she is energetic, but not hyper. She's now 3 and is still very chilled and laid back, but does like a play with her doggy friends.
My previous boy was the complete opposite to the one I've got now. As a puppy he was calm, cuddly and hardly bitey at all. I didn't know what had hit me when I got Ripple .

Yes Ash is very laid back and calm, obviously has his mad five minutes every now and again but on the whole is very easy.
Welcome! Harley is a great and easy pup. She isn't a cuddle monster and she definitely enjoys playing rough and tumble with DH but on the whole she is an inquisitive, happy pup and, touch wood, she really hasn't been destructive. When she goes to puppy class her attention span decreases (but so does DH's) and activity levels increase but I really think that is completely normal. We live through the embarrassment and come home to a wonderful 6 month old.
Welcome ! Sam was the most laid back puppy I had ever owned , to the point that I thought he must have some sort of heart problem , but no , he is just calm , thank goodness !
I'm not entirely sure that at 9 weeks you know what you've got. Most of them are sleeping, eating and pooing machines at 9 weeks....give it a little time.
I agree with @JulieT above. George was very calm, sleepy and cuddly when we first got him, I almost thought there was something wrong with him. As he got older he got braver, more independent and more interested in and excited by things. Now that he is 7 months he is not 'hyper' per se, but there's definitely a difference!

Absolutely Kate. First I found this forum, then I took Harley to the vet and said "My lab is sick". My vet explained, in small words, what gratitude is and how it should become my morning mantra
Hehe, reminds me of my friend who breezed into her first postnatal appointment, with a full face of make-up and properly attired. The nurse person (sorry, no idea of who it was, I don't "do" kids) asked her, "So, dear, how are you coping?". "Um, fine thanks!". "But, aren't you tired?". "Err, no. I put him to bed at 11pm and he sleeps through until 7am." "..." "..." "..." "Whatever you do, don't mention that to any of the other women (gesticulates towards waiting room full of sleep-deprived new mothers) out there!"
Ella was a nutty puppy but, looking back on it, I think some of that was our fault. At times I think we failed to do enough to keep her mentally stimulated so her enthusiasm for life boiled over.
Charlie wasn't all that nutty as a puppy - he was lively enough alright but not out of the ordinary I don't think - as he approached his teenage months, it became obvious he had a few roos loose in the top paddock and he is actually as mad as a box of frogs. Betsy on the other had was a real live wire at 8 weeks, bold as brass, and has turned out to be total head girl material. Good job she's got Charlie to lead her astray, really.
Im glad im lucky to have Sarge hes such a character. Hes learning that our Geese are not to be messed with. Now if only i could teach the Geese not to mess with the pups. We had to rescue them from the gander after he had herded them in the barn and guarded the entrance so the pups couldnt get out.
I think 'hyper' is a good description but can have negative connotations. Maybe happy, energetic, lively and playful are better descriptions None of mine have been 'hyper' in the sense of 'always on the go' - all have enjoyed good, long snoozes. I have a pile of snoozing Labrador by my feet as I type. Nnn
Meg is my fifth dog and has never been hyper...she's very chilled by my standards. I have had a bonkers Newfoundland and a totally loopy malamute...she's a peach compared to them. I agree with the others at 9 weeks it's hard to know...you have time yet for the fun to begin
