    Hi all, I'm a newbie on here- but have read EVERY article on the Labrador site I think!!
    Was just instrested in anyones theory's;
    Our 15week old pup loves to potter in the garden by herself- which she was doing this morning when my son fell off the wall he was climbing and very loudly cried and ran indoors- closely followed by the pup sprinting in with all her heckles up!! (Never seen before!) Why was this? Scared because of the drama? Or worried for my son (who's 8 so doesn't cry v often!)

    Hi and welcome from me and my 14 month old fox red boy Bailey.

    Hope your son is OK with no permanent damage done to himself! I would guess at a little of both - unexpected commotion may have startled her and an strange noise coming from one of her family coming to investigate?

    What's your girls name? If that is her in your avatar she looks like a real cutie.

    Hi Baileys mam! A fox red lovely!
    Yes that's her photo- she's called Rose got her valentine's weekend!
    How is bailey getting on through night? Rose is so quite I never know when she wakes up, so I set my alarm at all different times to take her out, sometimes I manage to get her out before she poo's!! But if I'm too early she just dashes back to bed!! (Why's this crazy lady taking me outside this early!!) I suppose it's just practice! She's so good through the day though just goes out herself- can't leave the door open all night though!! X

    When hackles go up it just means that the dog/pup is in a state of arousal. That can mean anything from excitement to fear. I'd say your pup just got a big surprise. A pretty normal reaction I'd say. Nothing to worry about as long as she still seems happy to potter about the garden like before :)

    Yup past that a while ago! And, sorry to say this but Bailey slept right through the night from the 1st night we brought him home. I spent a sleepless first night watching him (with a small pocket torch for light every so often) but he did not stir at all. Second night I napped but woke myself up with a start every half an hour, or when he made the smallest of noises but nope still sound asleep! This went on for about a week, all with no stirring from Bailey at all. We had him in a crate next to our bed, so that we could hear him if he needed to go out in the night but to this day we have never had to get up to him. He now has his last wee around 11pm sometimes midnight (I work pub hours) and he is then fine until the morning when we usually go out about half an hour after waking up (this morning it was 9.30am).

    What a lovely name Rose (and the valentine's link too :D). Sorry I can't be of more help with night time toilet - I'm up more than Bailey is!

    snap, she was in our room and I was getting less sleep thinking she was awake but was just turning over!! It's definitely like having a baby!
    Got up at 6am took her out had a poo straight away then trotted back to bed!(so she has no problem sleeping!) So I was back in bed by 6.04am!! I can cope with that, fingers crossed we manage to get in a routine! X

    Fingers crossed for you that Rose continues to sleep well. Bailey is now in the habit of sleeping on our bed until he gets too hot, then he gets on the floor, then back up on the bed - that doesn't bother me, its the way he throws himself across my legs that wakes me up! Would miss it though if he didn't do it :D
