Charlie whistles whenever we stop to chat to anyone, when sheep move or if he sees something in the distance. Is this excitement or anxiety or something completely different? Thanks Helen x
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? He's not remotely musical Julie ;D Kind of like a whine but more of a whistling sound really. Helen x
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? Lilly wines constantly (and embarrassingly) at dog training when not occupied. See....not a gun-dog like bone in her body :
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? What does it mean though? Gun dog, who mentioned gun dog, none here either ;D Helen x
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? He might be bored or want something? The only noise my Charlie makes is when he greets me - then he sounds like a whale! Other than that, he is completely silent. I might record the whale noises, they are super funny!
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? Yep I can see he could be bored when we are standing chatting but what about the moving Sheep? Ah yes the whale noises are lovely Helen x
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? Riley honks like a goose when he hears someone at the door and he's expecting one of us home - he has a good internal clock! He pretty quiet otherwise but whistles occasionally, usually with excitement when I'm asking him to be patient : I tell him to be quiet when he does that as noisy gun dogs aren't generally a good thing and who knows we may make the shooting field one day!
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? Can't help Helen, sorry ....all we have is woofs at arrivals to the house and whines occasionally ....usually in the morning if 5.30 am is too much of a lie in for him ( we are working on that now it's getting cooler) goose honks ,whistles and whale music....never mind a calendar....there's a Christmas CD amongst us ! ;D x
Re: Dog Whistling!!?? I think it could be partly frustration partly habit. And once it is an engrained habit it is pretty much impossible to get rid of, in my opinion. In a working gundog it is a real nuisance, but not a huge problem in a pet dog. If I were in a group training class I would not want to stand next to a whiner with my dog, it is believed to be a habit that can rub off on other dogs.
