Maybe a silly question but its a long time since I last had a Lab puppy, 12 years and I cant remember how much she slept during the day ? Sam seems to sleep a lot and I wondered if this was normal ?
His routine is that he usually gets up around 7 ish, breakfast at 7.30 , messes about with Flynn . They then have a long walk at about 9 , Sam off lead for most of the time, about an hour or so. Back home he will have a big drink and then crash out for three or four hours . After lunch at around 2-3 , he has another walk and a training session incorporated, maybe half an hour or so, off lead again , come home and sleep for an hour. They have tea at about 4.30-5, he will then mess around with Flynn , usually outdoors , often a loony time but by 7 in the evening, he wants to settle down and sleep . He has to be forced out for his last wee at 11 ! he is almost a year old, has always been very laid back, never really been hyper at all, he is slim but eats well , just a bit on the lazy side at times, maybe I should be grateful :)

I've no idea if that is normal for a lab, but it sounds like my perfect day!

My four year old, Tess thinks that bedtime is about 7:30pm. She is not interested in doing anything other than lie in her basket after that time, and wouldn't dream of getting out of bed before 7am.

She is a little dynamo outdoors during the day, but as far as she is concerned, she needs her beauty sleep. She sleeps most of the time when we are not actually outside too. It's how dogs pass the time until the next fun thing (food or running as far as she is concerned.) Even my crazy spaniels sleep a lot.

Sam sounds fine to me, but having said all that, if you are worried about him, it is always worth getting a check up. Sometimes you need to trust your own instinct.

Be grateful :D My five month old Lab is reasonable during the day, gets up at 8am, probably has a snooze round about 9am then awake until about 12 noon, sleeps until 1pm. Wakes and sleeps between 2 and 3pm then awake until 11pm at night!! Drives me crazy when I want to relax at 9pm and watch some TV. He does have a short walk at about 5.15pm and some fun retrieve playing.

Ok she's 3 in September. Drags herself out of bed when it looks like I'm going to take her for her morning walk. Has breakfast around 9:30. In fine weather pesters me on and off in the morning to play in the garden. Sleeps until around 5pm (summer) when she has her afternoon walk. Keeps a very close eye open in case there are any supper scraps or likings to be had. Crashes from around 8pm to 11pm when she goes out for a wee, and then we are back to morning again. So I suppose she sleeps or dozes for around 18 hours a day and is really active the rest of the time (REALLY active! No seriously I mean really active.)
