    Hi,

Three weeks today until Harvey collection day ;D

OK, this seems like a straight-forward question but, as so often, there seem to be conflicting views. What exactly should you put on your dog's ID tag (what are you legally obliged to include) and what should you exclude?

I think you are supposed to have the name and address of the owner.

Some people don't want to put the dog's name, some people find a phone number is better than an address.

I've settled for my house number, my postcode, and my mobile phone number on the actual collar, and one of these:

    http://www.orvis.co.uk/store/product.aspx?pf_id=8P7H

It's a link to a website where you can post details of a reward etc. if your dog gets lost.

Best of luck with Harvey! Bet you can't wait now?

Its lovely to sense your excitement , time always drags when you are waiting for a happy event ;D
I have our phone number with the word Microchipped on one side and our phone number and village name on the other and Julie is right, dont put the dogs name anywhere visible :)

    Hi Kate,

Thanks for the tag advice. What you and Julie say tallies with the KC so we'll go with that.

Yes, perception of time is weird isn't it?
In the moment: Having fun; time flies. Bored senseless or not enjoying something; time drags.
Waiting for an event: If you think it will be fun; time drags. If you think it will be boring or unenjoyable; time flies.

Quick, unrelated, follow-up question. Are we permitted to post links to youtube videos that we think are useful for dog training?

I have just ordered 2 new tags - I like 2 for a jingle in the woods :)
One says VET with VET PHONE NUMBER and MICROCHIPED
The other FAMILY NAME, HOUSE NUMBER, POST CODE on one side and MOBILE NO s on the other - both mine and OH.
Bit more information than our current set.

I think videos are generally ok. Pippa recommends the Kilopup ones and Heidruns videos are legendary ;D
I think if you avoid those with heavy advertising and anything "offensive" it should be ok and I mistakenly did a link to the Peta website which needed to be removed.
I think its mostly use common sense as there isn't an official policy to my knowledge.

Yeesh we don't have any rules about what to put on a dog tag here in Canada, at least not where I live!

Probably we will get locked up by the authorities for dog tag transgressions, but we only have our surname and telephone number on one side and a mobile number on the other. There is also a tag to say she is chipped.

Don't forget to register the microchip number by the way.

Don't worry, David, we will all visit you and Lady in prison.

All dogs here (Australia) have to wear a plastic, government ID tag with a unique number on it that's linked to the owner and dog's details. They have to be chipped. But they don't need any other ID.

I like jingly tags too. On our tag we have our dog's name (but his 'full name', Oberon, which he doesn't answer to), both our mobiles and our address.

I so hate the jingle of tags. It really bugs me! When Charlie takes a drink out of his heavy metal water bowl (only thing he doesn't tip up) he sounds like the local church bell ringing team- only on a really bad day!

Maybe i had a bad tag jingle experience as a hupup. ;D
