Sorry, been ages since I've visited the site. Forgot how brilliant it is!! We still have our wonderful boy, who is nearly 8 now, and we are now in the very privileged position of being able to get a second lab. I rather fancy having a hitch this time, but just wondered what you all thought? Male or female this time?

General rule of thumb is dog+dog , dog+bitch , both work just fine . The other mix of bitch+bitch can be problematical , but only on odd occasions , I`ve had two girls with no issues at all . Its all personal choice really , I have Sam who is almost six years old and have just rehomed a bitch , no probs whatsoever , good luck !

I don't think it really matters. I had one of each when I introduced my new puppy (another bitch). Both adults took an instant dislike to her, but now, a few months down the line (Luna is nearly 6 months), my boy adores her and my girl is as good with her as she is with her brother.

Willow and Shadow are so different that I couldn't say one was better than the other, so just go with what you fancy :)

Of course, if your dog is entire, you have to have a plan in place if you bring a girl home. Luna is going to have at least one season, and Shadow is entire, so we'll have to separate them when the time comes.

My bitch simply adores our pups - four bitches and one dog.

    Exciting times! :happyfeet:

I have a girl and a boy, my boy Charlie is a rescue and was introduced to Hattie when she was 4 years old. It took a little time for Hattie to get over Charlie being here but now they are best friends. Hattie is 9.5 years and Charlie is 6 years :) x

Theres no way i could have brought another female in the house with Moo. She likes to be the only gurl. Boys appeal to her and she gets used to them. She refused to eat or leave the sofa for a week when Rory came home, but was teaching him bitey face by day 9. She's a funny dog so I had to be careful, Doug was no problem he just was calm and reassuring
