AKC Registration

Hi all,

Is it necessary for me to register Mindy? The breeder gave me her papers and the form - but besides the AKC marketing literature, I'm not sure if it's mandatory.

I think in the USA, the breeder pre-pays for registration, so, as much as it's not mandatory, there's no reason not to?

In the UK, the breeder registers the litter and you just have to complete the change of ownership.

 

It's not mandatory but if you ever want to trial in AKC events it's nice to have. You never know, puppy might turn out to be really talented in agility or field work or something and you find you'd like to show her off a bit.

In the US, the Breeder registers the litter, and the owner typically registers the individual dog. We did not register Tilly but did register Cooper. IMHO No particular reason either way unless you want to participate in trials or shows, or intend to breed.

 

Thanks. I saw there was a promotion for some type of insurance if you register? Know anything about that?

We did not use it. It looked like a come on to get you hooked on an insurance plan.
