Tucker, our 2 1/2 year old black lab runs to the door of the house and wants to come in whenever he hears an airplane. We live on a small lake and the small planes practice taking off and landing here. How can we help him with this?
Hi Martha Welcome to the forum. If it was me I would start by trying to establish at what distance your dog is comfortable with the planes. Have lots of treats with you and slowly start moving closer - reward your dog frequently for being calm when the planes are landing or taking off. Don't over-do it, this will likely take some time and it's important not to push your dog too far. Let us know how you get on.
Hi and welcome. I agree with the above. When you see a plane and you are inside say to Tucker 'look at that' then reward for no reaction. Over time open the door a tiny bit and do the same 'look at that' reward. Very slowly open the door more over a few weeks and reward for no reaction. I used this method when I got my pup as she was scared of trucks/busses and I live just off of a dual carriage way. It took me about a month to get her to come out of our cul/0-de-sac and happy to walk up the dual carriageway. Hope this helps a bit.
