Sorry to hear about Esmeralda @Xena Dog Princess, hens are tricky. I kept hens until a couple of years ago, I always found the illness thing really difficult. I found a farm vet who was really good but there is only so much you can do for hens really. I got really good at spotting problems but each new batch of hens seemed to come up with new illnesses. Eventually I had one old gal on her own for just over a year, she had always bullied the others and seemed to thrive on being an only hen (against all recommendations that they should only be kept in flocks). When she eventually had to be put to sleep, she got fly strike but I think it was a result of underlying problems, I was really upset and haven't yet felt that I want to keep hens again. They were always a tremendous worry, what with the threat of foxes, their ability to escape and often bullying within the flock. The eggs were lovely though .
I think innocent looking Zaba is a sock thief - I keep finding two of them playing tug with socks, my two have never bothered with them!
So sorry. My friend keeps them and they are really hard emotionally they are so funny and get so sweet as the get tamer. I don't think she will get anymore when her last flock member dies
We took Stanley up Roseberry Topping today. Well.. OH did! I gave up half way. If there was ever a sign I need to get back to the gym, that was it!
The joy of trying to explain to your extra bouncy lively young labrador that in order for his paw to heel he needs to stay on the lead and not go every where at a sprint.....need less to say he is not happy with this state of affairs!!
Just nearly watched Marley & Me accidentally. Surely as a Labrador owner that is the worst thing you could ever do?
Never seen it sorry I did read a bit of the book but the owners annoyed me so much I had to stop. I prefer" Red Dog" it's a bit strange picnic at hanging Rock meets greyfriars Bobby but I like it. unfortunately most dog stories end with the dog dying so I avoid them but in a "Boy and his Dog" I really like the ending. makes me laugh everytime.
Has anyone else here read "A Dog So Small"? It was one of my favourite books when I was a kid. Cried every time I read it.
Does spark a memory and can picture the cover but can't remember it sorry I gave just spent the most frustrating morning at the gps. Its all so complicated that ive got to go back later. I am so sick of spending most of my time at the hospital or with the gps. theyve refered me to cardiology now I really feel like having a cry but I'm not going to I going for a walk with my saviour Rory . He will make me smile and laugh
Yes, a lovely book! "The Incredible Journey" was also a favourite, both to read and as a film. The original film is better than the re-make (which was given a different title, I think).
Sophie had this. The original I am sure, certainly not a new one though I'm not sure how many versions there were. Watched it to death! Always had it on!
Well I am SO proud of Coco this morning. On our lead walk, we met a lady with an oldish (9 years) Jack Russell Terrier coming the opposite way, she was on the opposite side of the road at the end of a side lane, and she sat her dog down to comfort it. I called "are you coming this way?" - "yes" she replied. "OK, we'll try and walk past you then" says I. I took out a Bonio and gently and calmly, walked past with Coco, as she walked on and crossed to our side (behind us now). We stopped and had a lovely conversation (at a sensible distance),while Coco sat and watched me. This is a first for me. I am BURSTING with pride & joy.
Has anyone else noticed if their dogs behaviour changes as the season changes. As it is now getting darker earlier, I find Vanilla will walk nicely to heel pretty much straight after I let the lead off. She has her mental sniffing and jumping session, but only for about 10sec. when it was light it would last for minutes. She also pays more attention to me, either she is scared because it is getting dark, or she is growing up and training has started to pay off (who am I kidding)
