My parents have just adopted a rescue dog. They like BIG dogs - their last rescue, who died aged 10 last year, was a big old bull mastiff boxer cross and was lovely. The new boy is called Scooby Doo can anyone guess his breed mix for a bit of fun? We don't know the answer, but do know what the rescue centre thought he was. Little Indie Pindie hasn't met him yet, but she will be dwarfed!
Wow he's beautifully muscled. What a chest! Grey hound x other big dog? His body and hindlegs and tail look like a gray hound. Or is the bigger breed a whippet? I never remember.

I would go for boxer x great dane or boxer x greyhound. I hadn't thought of greyhound until the others' replies, but I could see that too!
Aw Scooby Doo is beautiful, I think a bit of Boxer, a smidge of Staffie, Great Dane and Grey Hound due to his lean backend and long tail. Who cares, he's fab! x
You lot are good at this game! So, the rescue centre said... ...boxer X Great Dane But not sure they know for definite. Interesting about the greyhound - I hadn't thought that at all but I can see that body shape a bit now. I think he's a bit underweight so that might give a hint of greyhound about him (don't want to be mean about greyhounds but I call the one that lives near us Skeletor...). I'll let you all know how he gets on. Apparently he is settling in well, has a few issues to work through but likes cuddles
I heard at Crufts that greyhounds have no (or at least, very little) subcutaneous fat layer, which is why they look so ribby. You learn something new every day

Gosh yes - v different to an overweight lab, that stores it right over the ribs! That fat greyhound still looks like skeletor although actually I just googled skeletor and he is not at all skeletal. I need a new name for that greyhound!
I did a google image search and lots of Vizla and Rhodesian Ridgebacks came up. The head doesn't look quite right for either and I don't know if they can be brindled. Those breeds came up together as breeds for active people. He looks lovely.
Indie met big brother scooby for the first time today! They were surprisingly calm together. They wanted to play at first but unfortunately Scooby doesn't have any recall yet and still has a lot of settling in to do (and can jump six foot fences) so we didn't let them off the lead. He is amazing, he prances about and tosses his head like a pony - I am beginning to wonder whether my parents actually adopted some sort of horse... And one of the cutest things about him is that he will not go to sleep unless he has a duvet put over him, right over his head. Then he will sleep until morning, just a lump under a duvet, sometimes with two nostrils poking out!
