There are days where I wonder about having a dog.

Ha, I find the best way to combat that is to give them attention and play during the day. Especially if they are indoor cats, which five of ours are now. They need as much play as many dogs. The two outside, and all our previous cats, expend their energy outside and now Joey, who does come in at night, sleeps through the night. Cats are way more like dogs than many people think. Love them both, cats and dogs.

@Harley Quinn vent away, sounds so normal to me, to feel as you do. Mabel was going crazy in the car today as we pulled up at my friends house. Not because she is excited at seeing her boyfriend oh no, because she has taken a strong dislike to her neighbour, who happened to be walking to her car. I looked at Mabel and thought seriously I wished I'd bought a gerbil instead of a dog. It took me a good 5 mins to calm down.
I hope you have a peaceful weekend with some quality time.

I feel you. I pushed to get a puppy and forgot how hard they are. It will all pay off as they age and you won't even remember all the attention they demand. Also, on days that I am drained I just force myself to talk my puppy on a walk- an exercised dog is a good dog!

Yes absolutely this. This post got me thinking about dogs I've had over the years, how differently they had things compared to Cassie. No getting on sofas for them, or sausages for recall!! They took the rough with the smooth and got by, like we all did, and were happy family members.

Not that I would change things for Cassie, life is different now, and she's my special girl. :)

    I so needed this thread.

Just sending my love to all of you who have had a rough week.

I too have had a rough couple of weeks. My dad had a heart attack and my beloved Nan passed away. In the midst of it all i had a boisterous energetic puppy to deal with.as well as working full time and exams going on etc.
I did as much as I could but i was at breakig point. It is all past me now and I am feeling okay and love my pup to bits. He makes me smile.

We are certainly too hard on ourselves.

I saw a quote revently which said

"So far, you have survived 100% of your bad days. You're doing great"

Everyone is so right and thank you for the voices in unity and of support. 90% of the time the thought of Harley at waiting at home is one of the highlights of my work day. Our little family is awesome. And I think I will be a cat person until the day I die but it is hard to ask for a better pup than Harley. I am going to have a recoup, self-care weekend, I haven't had one in awhile.

And how can anyone resist a lab that takes as beautiful selfies as Harley does:) Again, thank you for the understanding and support.

Wouldn't it be great, if we could all get together for one Friday night and just flop on a huge sofa? Our dogs would all get on and play/chill and we'd all drink wine and tea and just relaaaaax and talk dog. It's great to be in touch with such like-minded folk.

I love coming home to Harley, but am sometimes so exhausted it seems hard work.......but then as soon as she sees me she gets all waggy bum, gives me kisses and wants cuddles. Dogs are hard work, but so worth it. Make sure you relax and take your time to refresh this weekend.

Here is a solution. Get a dog walker on Friday evenings.

PS: I love staring at walls. It's such sensational form of therapy.
