mark had jasper out tonight later than normal, took him on the field at the back of our house,
this is the second time this as happened in the dark of night :-\
jasper had a good run in the field, mark called him back to head home, put his lead on, as he did jaspers ears pricked up, he was faced within may be 10 feet away from the dreaded local fox

what i would like advice on, if jasper had not been on the lead, maybe he would have ran over to the fox :(
we don't know if he would as we have not been faced with this......would the fox attack him ?

when i go out in the day time i have been yards away from the dreaded bloody fox :)
help please, i am getting scared of jasper running over to the pest

Oh dear! I'm sorry, Helen, I can't help with this one. We do have foxes around, but not in the same numbers as you all do. I doubt the fox would attack him, but would be more likely to run away! Jasper is pretty big, after all. :) Then the challenge would be the recall, I suppose, same as if he surprised a cat....

Lots and lots of urban foxes here. "Official" advice - my local council, fox studies etc - is that foxes are shy and will only attack a largish animal or human if cornered and defending itself. Hmmm....the foxes in my garden are so bold, I can't bring myself to quite believe it. So I was very careful when Charlie was very small puppy.

But Charlie would weigh 3 times that of a fox now, and even the bold London foxes would leg it I reckon (Charlie would leg it first though! ;D). They are a pain in my garden, I replaced the fence where they got in, only to have them dig under another bit of the fence that hadn't been replaced. So having to do the whole fence now.

A fox will certainly want to retreat than take on a dog the size of a Lab. Too much danger to the fox of getting injured.

Dogs seem to hate foxes and regard them as their natural enemies. A fox will always run away from a large dog if it possibly can.
