    Lovely subject I know.

I posted last week about one of my dogs being sick in their pen but wasn't sure which one and I couldn't decide if ill or if excitement + water.

Well I found out which one Scott. He did it again Sunday and yesterday so I decided a trip to the vet was in order.

I couldn't face going to my usual vets after all the mistakes and the way they make you feel like an imposition despite the fact you are paying. I registered with the new vet that has opened actually nearer.
My only concern is he is just a single vet but I've heard very good things about him.

I took Scott this morning he hated it of course but the vet was very nice spent time talking about the dogs past medical history etc. I was actually the only one there so felt like my personal vet. There was seating in the consultation room while we discussed things and a magic exam table that elevated ! ! Scott wasn't keen on that.

Scott of course barked at the vet. I explained they'd become nervous of strangers after the treatment for the bladder infection when they were pups. He was surprised they hadn't used a sedative when they did a catheter as it is a painful procedure. He wouldn't catheterise without a sedative. He also thought the experience was too much for a pup to cope with and wasn't surprised it had had an effect on them.

Scott got antibiotics. He thinks something he's eaten has irritated his stomach. Not surprising they both eat anything disgusting.

Hopefully I've done the right thing changing vets and my dogs will start to calm down with him. At leat I know I'll always see the same one. :D

That sounds so positive! It's great that the visit was so successful.

I don't know about "changing vets" though - it's not like the first are going to know you've been to the second. If for any reason you need the services of a bigger practice, just go back to the first vet. I'm a big believer in multi-vetting!

Thats the thing Julie the first vets will know because the second vet asks for the dogs medical notes so not sure if that means I can use both vets or not? ??? Although if necessary don't see why not I doubt they'd refuse anybodys money.

The vet today was really nice though and told me if I was ever worried about anything even if I wasn't sure if I needed a vet or not I could ring. Out of hours diverts to his mobile. I think he might regret telling some people that ! ;D

Hmmm.... I've never experienced that, no vet has ever asked me who my last vet was, and I didn't volunteer the information. Interesting consumer and competition problem!

Jen,I multi-vet too ;D .I really liked the first one and he was highly recommended but I had to drive to an industrial area with lots of heavy plant hire traffic,to get there !I was so scared in case Dexter jumped out the boot of the car onto a busy road( like he ever would...I anticipate disaster in every event ;D ) and also I knew there would be several periods when I was away and this clinic would not be an option for his non driving sitter.my regular vet, used to work with my first choice vet,I've never been asked for records and if I was I can't see it being a problem....they are your dogs records and you are allowed the freedom of choice in who you want to see ...... So you go with who you feel the most comfortable with x

i am so lucky to have a wonderful vet, she even took time to teach logan how to handle jasper at the bighting /nipping stage, she explained that he was the teacher and jasper was the pupil and all pupils have got to do what the teacher tells them :)
i get a cuddle off her every time i go, i have spent a lot of time at the vets :'(
she is more like a friend now :)

There was a really good vet at the practice I originally went to. She got to know me and Murphy very well (unfortunately if you see what I mean) I didn't have to explain stuff to her she knew murphys past history, she knew I'd understand stuff she might otherwise have to explain etc. When Scott and Scout got bladder infections and I finally got her she sorted it out but also said I'm the only person she knew who would've spotted a urine infection in a pup including herself.

Unfortunately she left in April. :( She was the only reason I'd put up with all the rubbish stuff that had happened. Id known her for most of murphs life 15 years so changing vet is a bit scary. I just hope this new vet is half as good so far (one visit not much to go on don't really want to go that often ) so good. :D

This finding a good vet business is a trouble, I hope the one you have now is good and you have a happy experience with him.

I grew up in Yorkshire, and we just knew who the good vets were - because everyone had horses, and dogs, and knew the local farmers. These large, many vet, highly commercial, small animal practices were new to me - and I haven't been that impressed!

unfortunately jasper as needed many vet visits :(
my vet also recommended a brilliant surgeon for him, northwest surgeons, orthopaedic surgery
at 200 pound per consultation fee :( ( expensive )

however we did get a consultation with the managing director, dr chris may

both myself and the surgeon are putting off surgery for the time being :) i feel so lucky to have an amazing vet and surgeon, who i can speak to any time of the day :)
i suppose i am getting what i pay for, or they have seen me coming :)

I know what you mean Julie . Originally my vets were the local farm vets been going for years excellent reputation. The 2 original vets retired new partners took over and the name altered to veterinary group. They phased out the farming side roughly about the time it went down hill in my opinion.

I guess us dog owners will pay more money than a farmer will for a sheep !

What does Jasper need surgery for Lynne ? :(
