Hey everyone! Sorry Ive been quiet. Been up the wall with Dexter and life in general. So much to do in so little time! I need some help... For about 2/3 days, Dexter's stools havent been solid. His first of the day is. Thats probably around 6am. His 2nd, and sometimes third, is around midday. These have started solid but ended...runny. (Sorry! I did pre-warn not to read if eating :) Then his 4th, sometimes even 5th!, is runny. This is in the evening. Dexter hasn't been one of those 'twice a day dogs'. Plus his kibble hasn't changed. The only things we think it could be are: Dentastix: Started giving these around a week ago but haven't today. Giving this a try for a few days. Food allowance: 138g, three times a day. Dropped to 120g per serving. The Now another thing (which I'm convinced it is!), Dexter's food and water bowl are on the floor but I've noticed since this whole 'runny' saga he's slowed down eating his food because I think hes straining his neck to eat from his bowl now he's getting taller. So, Ive ordered a dual pet bowl stand that can adjust as he grows. This potentially isn't being delivered for another week so in the mean time, either me or Karl rest his bowl on a turned upside down mixing bowl. If that doesn't work, I'll try plain chicken and rice for a few meals. If they all fail. To the vets we go. Am I being irresponsible not taking him to the vets sooner? Dexter himself is his normal self. Running, bouncing around...biting. As always, any advice is greatly appreciated.
Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! Dentastix gives all of my dogs the runs! I never buy them, too expensive ;D, but they came as a freebie with something. That could be just a coincidence of course. I feed all of my dogs from bowls on the floor and have never had a problem with it. I would just try and leave out the Dentastix for a while and then see how you get on.
Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! Thanks Heidirun! Hopefully it is just coincidence. My other worry was dehydration but Dexter is still drinking water between meals and doesnt seem to be showing signs of dehydration. This was him last night He's growing!!
Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! Ahhh lovely picture, he's gorgeous Riley had quite a sensitive tum as a pup. It takes quite a while for their immune systems to develop so if stopping the dentastix doesn't have the desired effect it could just be some dirty water or something he's picked up. We usually missed a meal or two and then did the chicken and rice plus a bit of yoghurt for his tum

Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! I have put Harley on Royal Canin which was recommended by my vets as her stools were soggy from the day I got her. Since being on this, she appears less hungry and her stools have been normal. Some treats that I brought her give her the runs, so I have cut these out and they have made all the difference. By the way, Dexter is gorgeous
Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! Thanks Naya! I'm a worrier but remaining pretty calm about this Dexter has been fine on his food since we swapped around 10/11 weeks of age but that's another option, to change his food.

My Dexter has a sensitive tummy...I had 2 months of runny stools when he arrived and he's settled down on royal canin Gastro intestinal......that is it for him except steamed chicken and roast,skinned chicken,everything else gives him the trots.ive heard the dentastix are a waste of money.Dexter is young enough to be able to get him used to you brushing his teeth...why don't you give that a try?if you persevere,you can get it done really effectively in less than 5 mins......warning,there will be wriggling but preservere,it's worth it . Photo is gorgeous,has he been up to mischief? X

I think Dentastix gave Charlie awful runny poo, which lasted days, but then cleared up - I had bought a big box, and gave them away to someone with an older dog. The other thing is that overfeeding Charlie causes runny poo. I feed Royal Canin and have slashed the amount recommended on the packet. For Charlie, right now, the packet recommends 450g a day (based on the adult weight his breeder estimates). He gets 250g a day. Two meals of 75g (150g) - which are hand fed as training treats or used in kongs - plus another 100g also in training treats or kongs (sea biscuits - fish and rice - and chicken). And he still is bit podgy! Could do with reducing another 50g but then would be short of training treats.
Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! I know a dog with similar problems. The vet thought that it was due to overactivity. Can't say I was convinced. After going through several different foods, apparently its all normal poop on a wheat-free diet. Just food for thought.
Re: Advice Needed Please...Dont Read If Eating! My 19 month old Lab's bowels are just the same, I think some dogs don't have as good a digestion as other dogs.
