:cwl: Could you please bump into the beagle owner again and find out where you get those sort of labs?

I think it is surprising how many things our dogs seem to learn without actually being taught or trained specifically. And visa/versa some times.

I had someone say "lucky you, labs are born half trained"...so, if they're born half-trained and then go on to train the rest themselves us lab owners really do have it easy

Yes quite so ... then choose one :)

I don't get why someone would choose a beagle, which has evolved over generations to pick up a scent and go go go,

and then complain because that's what their dog does.

Thanks all for the nice replies. We will always keep on going the way we want and suits us. I know somethings will take longer than for others.
We have a very good friend whos dad used to train and breed labradors in Ireland. We where talking to her about some of the things we run into, and all she said: "you have a well behaved dog who listens and is very soft mouthed. My dad would pay you a small ransom to have her and take her out on shoots."
But even she said she has never come across some of the negative methods we mention.

I am always happy to have conversation with people about various things, I never force any off my believes on them but if they are interested it will open a conversation. I always expect the same in return, that is though where I become stuck.

@Beanwood like that alot. Always good when a positive happens.
We have had that in the past about new owners and friends who have been very nervous about letting their dog off lead (even in their own back gardens go figure). Always surprised when I say she was off lead from the day we got her.

    Anyhow onwards and upwards.
