Or even a failed service dog. Our trainer was training a service dog. He was a great Lab/Golden mix. Very obedient and gentle. He would have made a great service dog. However, when she sent him to the kennel for his next step in service training, he fell ill, so they failed him out. Apparently they don't continue and must be given up for adoption. Maybe find some local trainers and see if they have any of these "failed" service pups.
