It's been a long time since I posted on Hattie's thread. Today Hattie and I did a home visit to a lovely patient that deserves it so very much. We didn't go as PAT but as friends. He adores Hattie and counts the days until he see's her again at the Hospice, so how could we refuse an invitation to pop round for a cuppa and dog treats! Hattie went straight into their house found 'K' and gave him the biggest, waggiest hello ever, 'K' was thrilled to bits He got out of his wheelchair to sit on the sofa and of course Hattie was invited up for a cuddle which she did willingly snuggling up to him It was lovely to see him having Hattie all to himself and I could see it was just what he needed to cheer him up after such an awful time. He is only in his early 60's and has endured more than anyone I know, his wife too. Hattie even ignored their Cat, bonus! We had a lovely afternoon with 'K' and his lovely wife, drinking coffee eating biscuits and having a great laugh. Hattie just knows what to do to cheer everyone up and she certainly made 'Ks' day. Warms my heart to see Hattie make such a big difference to someones life. I really do love my special girl xx
What a gorgeous girl Hattie is! What a lovely thing to do - you've inspired me to look into this. Not yet - Stanleys far too excitable and "too much". But when he's older and a bit calmer. He brings so much joy to people everywhere he goes I think it would be amazing to let him brighten people's day up.
@JenBainbridge I can't tell you how much we love doing PAT work. As soon as Stanley calms down you go for it and I promise you won't regret it x
This is such a beautiful thread! I manage a residential home, and we have palliative patients, what you and Hattie do is wonderful, you bring joy on darker days, comfort, distraction, and love! I have read how you feel so sad sometimes when people you have connected with pass away, i have cared for people for 18 years and still grieve and miss each person, I even have a cry. This is just being human. Your both amazing! Hattie is very cute, and obviously so intuitive to those she visits needs! Lovely you are making such a difference to people lives xx
Hi everyone. What a joy it was reading through this thread. Although Ariel needs to be 2 years old before she can become a therapy dog, I already have the 2 of us signed up. My intention is to have her visit our soon to be built hospice, as well as our local hospital. She has already proven the value of these visits, as I often bring her to the old age home where my mom lives. The smiles on the elders' faces and the hugs she gets always melt my heart. Ariel's always the hit of the party!
Volunteer's Tea Party A couple of weeks ago Hattie and I were invited to the Volunteer's Tea Party at the Hospital/Hospice where we do our PAT visits. It was in the large restaurant with beautifully set tables, best china and lots of Hattie was a star and didn't ask for any cake so I was relieved! she just lay down at my feet whilst I did have cake We did the rounds with lots of meets and greets with other volunteers and staff, Hattie even got a special mention in the thank you speeches and had her photo taken. It was a lovely afternoon and as always Hattie did me proud. Thank you my lovely girl xx
