We`ve had, and still having, quite diabolic weather down here in Cornwall . We`ve had the lot, rain, hail , thunder and lightening , just thankful we are just uphill from the coast so no floods like some poor souls . What i have noticed though, is the lack of dog walkers when the weather is inclement , the usual gang of about 12 walkers and 18 dogs have been depleted to the odd intrepid few in our local fields, so what the heck do they do , dont thier dogs drive them crackers if they dont get walked ? Dont get me wrong , I hate this weather with a passion , today its thick fog and all I can hear is the fog horn going off and can barely see for the swirling fog and rain, but the dogs need a walk, albeit a tad shorted than usual : I cant imagine what our two would be like if I looked out of the window and said " Sorry boys, its raining, no walks today " .
Re: Fair weather dog walkers I notice the same - I have to hope that it means they are getting a quick go round the block on lead and not being simply confined to quarters. I'm quite lucky in that if it's really blowing a hooli my garden is big enough for them to let off steam in and they don't seem to mind once in a while. Keeping them quarantined when they had kennel cough though for weeks was not at all fun!
Re: Fair weather dog walkers I'm out, booted and rain-coated, no matter what the weather. It's not quite as wet here in Germany (actually warm and sunny, 25 degrees at the moment) but we do get our fair share of rain. And LOTS of snow in the winter! But we go out whatever the weather. Actually, the problem is more when it gets too hot in the summer. It does get quite hot and humid - yesterday afternoon it was almost 28 degrees, and poor old Bones really did not want to go out. That's when I pop them in the car and drive to the nearest pond for a cool off!

Re: Fair weather dog walkers Rain and thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow, and we have had the odd day when it rained nonstop, but on the whole it's not too bad at all, and nothing compared to the terrible weather in the UK. I am going to see my family next week in the UK, so I hope it clears up a bit by then...
Re: Fair weather dog walkers I dread it when we get a nice weekend down here, as all the dogs who only go out about twice a year get taken to the local (usually quiet) country parks. You can always tell the one's, as their owners have them on those flexi lead things (works of the Devil) and they say things like "Be NICE!" to their dog when it approaches yours, which usually means it's going to be anything BUT nice when it gets close enough . Thankfully my dogs are canny enough to skip out of the way or give them a wide berth.

I deeply resent that I have to put my dog on a lead because other people can't be bothered to actually train their dogs.

[/quote] I don't actually mind if their dogs aren't that well trained, I just wish they'd Socialise them properly and regularly, then we wouldn't have such problems. Jules.
Re: Fair weather dog walkers Some of the best walks Lady and I have had has been in appalling weather. She loves playing in the deep puddles and seems pretty impervious to water, snow and wind. Pretty much up for anything except cows. She's frightened of cows and won't go within a million miles of one.

My dogs don't take any notice of them ("If I don't look at them, they don't exist.") as they were bought up around horses, but they worry me, as they don't stop coming at you if you stand square and wave your arms about, like horses do. We're All Weather walkers too. I quite like the peace and quiet of a wet walk. As long as you're wearing the right clothes, it doesn't matter if it's raining, does it.

I stopped going out in the wind after we have a close shave with a tree coming down (barney thought it was exciting and investigated, Rusty and me were OMG let's go home!) and we can't get out of here without going down a heavily tree lined lane...
Re: Fair weather dog walkers We took a walk along the public footpath that runs beside our local zoo yesterday. Poppy was fine with the deer, zebra, sheep and goats (no cows) - but was pretty freaked by the camels! Still, luckily you don't meet too many of them on the average walk...
