So nettle went into vets for some xray and a look around her bowel. Vet found no blockage but lots of poo in her large intestine. He moved some of this along and removed some. Stitched her up and sent her home with some laxative. She had no been pooing properly for a week or so and odd bit of vomiting. Since she came home she has had pain killers and her wound does not seem to be bothering her. But she is constantly crying and wanting a poo 15 times I was up last night nothing coming out. But when she passes wind she has a runny poo coming out no solids. She is very distressed. Could something of passed through her stomach and small intestine and got stuck in her large bowel? X rays showed nothing I'm think something soft plastics and smooth like a babies teething ring? Vet is sure no blockage but can't explain lack of pooing
I'd be asking the vet for a referral to a specialist who focuses on intestinal disorders. Do some googling yourself to see if there is a specialist in your area who the vet can refer you to (some vets don't maintain connections with specialists so you need to be proactive...).
I am seeing the vet tomorrow. All the bowel problems started after she raided my daughter's kitchen bin. And threw up an intact ketchup sachet. Hence the bowel obstruction route with the vet. I don't know whether to ask him to give her an enema? Just seems like her bowels stopped working . Thank you I will ask him.
Absolutely back to the vet, pronto! It does sound like she is in distress. Agree with @Oberon, you need a referral and quickly. What pain meds has your dog been prescribed? Some of these can slow bowel movements down.
She has been given Rimadyl. Liquid paraffin and lactolose. We have an app tomorrow. She is eating but no poo only liquid when she passes wind Cries to go out and then just sits down like it hurts.
Poor thing! Sounds like she really is impacted, which is why you are seeing this liquid. Rimadyl is an NSAID, so shouldn't affect bowel function like some analgesics can.
My vet said there's a possibility of having a flat object in the intestines that does not obstruct but causes irritation, but often not picked up on X-ray. But I'd imagine if the vet opened her up and manipulated her intestines with his hands, he'd have felt something? Could she have swallowed a plastic bag that is caught up and can't be seen or felt? I'd be back at the vet or seeing a specialist about this if she is still not pooing and continues to vomit.
Poor thing! Our Riddick swallows whatever he is chewing on, and he has had a vet visit and a surgery for an obstruction already, so I am super neurotic about puking or an upset tummy! I hope you get answers soon!
Bless her. Hope you get some answers or help from the vets tomorrow. It sounds like she is really struggling
