Hi, Looking for recommendations on a pet first aid kit. Or what products I should have in house incase of emergency. I have a super bouncy excited Labrador thats had few cuts and grazes, just wondering what is best to have in? Thanks
Things in my first aid kit include (off the top of my head Hibiscrub and betadine Gauze, cotton pads Vet wrap Tick twister Sterile saline tubes Sterile scissors Wire cutters (the first aid kit comes on hikes with us, and this is in case of entanglement in wire fencing) PAWZ Rubber boots Musher's Secret for winter months Metacam Ummm... can't think of anything else right now!
You can buy ready made first aid kits for pets, probably on Amazon. Or you can just supplement your human first aid kit. These are things I always have in mine. Saline solution Vet wrap Bandage padding Tick remover Wound dressing pad Small scissors Surgical gloves Water based wound gel Piriton tablets Glucose gel A muzzle, or a pair of tights to make a makeshift muzzle A few of these things also go into my little first aid kit which I have always on me when I'm out working my dogs, like saline solution in small plastic pods, glucose gel and vet wrap.
Here is a very good article from the labrador website on First aid kits for dogs, plus some videos on doggy first aid you might find interesting http://www.thelabradorsite.com/dog-cpr-and-first-aid/
I attended a dog first aid course and was supplied with a dog first aid kit with the basics - Vet wrap Scissors Gauzes Bandage padding Saline Surgical gloves Bandages Foil blanket Tape Biohazard disposal bags Wound cleansing wipes I have added- Mushers paw wax Tick remover Metacam Paw boots Hibiscrub
