Guess who was able to stay standing to eat his breakfast this morning! For the first time since June 6th!
I must stop looking for the negative and expecting the worst, but it seems we have reached a bit of a plateau with Riddick's progress... He has picked up a little of the weight he lost, but he still needs another kilo at least to make me happy - so I can't feel his ribs or his hip bones. His blood sugar is WAY too high, but we are focusing on that now as the Pexion AED seems to be doing the job. His posture is SO much better when he walks - more of a Lab's straight, flat back, than the arched back he had during his recovery (if you'd like, you can see my Instagram videos from June 18th: http://bit.ly/2tgkhr3 and July 1st: http://bit.ly/2uouXlR ). He still gets tired, but it takes a lot longer. He's touring his garden, and he's trying to play and bringing the ball to me to throw for him! I am now at least happy to leave him at home with the other dogs for a short while without help as he is able to get up and walk around, and he can go up and down stairs without falling every time - thankfully we only have a few inside the house. I continue to pray for my precious boy's full recovery, and you have all been so incredibly helpful and supportive! I am so glad I found you all!
Yesterday Riddick almost managed to jump up onto his favourite spot on our bed - he got his front legs up before his back legs let him down. Its now been 10 days since his last Pheno tablet so I am pretty sure its out of his system, and he still shows small signs every day that he's still getting stronger. I definitely going to need to do something to get his diabetes under control again, though... Even with extra food for the last 9 days he still isn't gaining weight (35.4kg on 8 June, 32.2kg today), and his blood sugar readings are in the twenties and more.
I spend half my day grinning like a lunatic when my precious Riddick gets up and follows me wherever I go, like he always did! To see him able to go up and down the few steps in the house, and go from one favourite snooze spot to another without needing help, makes my heart so glad. And what a weight off my shoulders to know I can leave him home without supervision.
