Hi all, our 4 month old puppy has started to whine when we leave the room. Unfortunately, he is on "bed rest" due to a sprain so we cannot exercise him like he really needs. I think it is because of the lack of exercise that he is whining more, my husband isn't quite convinced that is the root cause. We do give him frozen Kongs which help, but only a couple a day. We don't want him to put on too much weight too quickly. His leg is slowly getting better, but this may be a several week process before he can run again. Any ideas to help with the whining and suggestions for exercise while convalescing?

I would use more of his food allowance in Kongs.

When Harley was on rest for a sprain, I played lots of puzzle games that I brought from the pet shop. I also hid treats around the room and let her go find them. I took this opportunity to start to clicker train her which really tired her out.

How long is he in the crate for?

I would do a lot of fun training, as Naya suggests. And use all food in a creative 'bang for your buck' way as Boogie suggests :)

Hope he's back to full strength as fast as possible! It's hard when you're dealing with an injury...
