Today was our dog training company's dog show and competitions. I entered Mabel into musical sit, fast recall with distractions, prettiest bitch and musical down. All monies raised went to a local animal charity there were also stalls and refreshments.

She came last in both the musical sit and down. She was still dancing about way after the music had stopped, definitely enjoying all the noise and frivolity. She wasn't too bad in the recall. I'm pleased to announce she came first in the prettiest bitch. She had to walk around the ring twice and then greet the judges who looked at her coat, eyes, teeth etc. She thought it was a big game and licked the judges and made them laugh. If she was human she would definitely be the first one at a party and the last to leave. She won a rosette, certificate and goody bag which contained a biscuit, memory game and a ball in the shape of a chickens head. Here she is doing a sloppy sit.

    Beautiful, proud girl.

I live sloppy sits, there should be a best 'sloppiest sit' competition!

If you'd asked yesterday, I might have had one going cheap ;)

She's been a little star today, though, so I decided to keep her. For now.

    She's gorgeous.

I love the sloppy sit too. I recall though when I took my previous lab BJ to his early training classes, the trainer shouted at me for letting him sit like that, demanding that he be made to sit 'straight' Some hopes I thought - he's a lab :D

Heh, my older two never sit sloppily. Never have. Luna, on the other hand, is the world's laziest sitter (I think we need to have a sloppy sit-off, @Beanwood, Luna has moved on to whole new levels ;) ).
I unwittingly reinforced this by laughing at it - Squidge really responds to human attention. I figured it might self-correct as she became more interested in marked retrieves, as it's not an efficient starting point, but, no. The fact it looks lazy doesn't bother me, as long as she still retrieves with energy, but I realised the other day that it means I cannot line her up for a blind retrieve, because as soon as she sits, she rocks back. So we've started work on a straight sit. Took an age to lure (ok, about 5 minutes, but it felt like ages), but she's got it now, and I'm being careful that when I ask for a sit, I only reward straight ones. What she does on her own time doesn't bother me :)

This is Mabel's best attempt at a straight sit, even then there is room for improvement she can also do the sliding frog sit but I don't have any photos. Not sure why she has gone for the sloppy look. Someone told me, dogs that do sloppy sits have been over weight and this is the only way they can sit. Correct me please if I'm wrong but that sounds like rubbish, especially as Mabel has always been trim.
@snowbunny a photo of Luna doing a sloppy sit would be appreciated :)

Mabel has the loveliest face, very deserving of her rosette. And that sounds like a really fun competition, and for a worth cause too.

    Oops, I forgot about this!

OK, here is one I took of her the other morning. Believe it or not, this is actually better than it had been a few seconds before I grabbed the camera, when her leg was completely straight out! :wasntme:

Excuse the house, it's definitely a work in progress :D

@snowbunny :D:D:D Luna definitely is the champion of sloppy sits. By the way I like the floor tiles, I'm presuming they are original. :)

Yes, original and laid appallingly badly! It's like walking the Pyrenees getting from one side of the room to the other :D
