What a young dog can tell us....

    Just got around to reading this. Thanks for sharing, it's a wonderful article!

    My highlights:

    "Recognize that a lot of the behaviors we don’t care for are just coping mechanisms for our dogs and that we should be helping them to cope in acceptable ways; not trying to remove their access to coping."

    "As Dr. Susan Friedman says, behavior is always a study of one. We should not compare our young dogs to our past dogs, or our friends’ dogs. We must only observe their behavior and respond accordingly. Most of all, we should cherish them."

    I think perhaps the difficulty in trying to help someone on a forum in a diplomatic manner. Each situation is so different and the more in tune you are with your animal the more in tune it becomes with you. You can't just train your puppy to lay in the corner until you're ready for it and not expect negative behaviours or as stated "coping mechanisms" to arise.
