A really thought provoking article regarding dogs coming of age. There is particular emphasis on high performance dogs, and how they evolve "coping mechanisms" for stress in their lives https://thecognitivecanine.com/2017/07/12/what-a-young-dog-can-tell-us/
Just got around to reading this. Thanks for sharing, it's a wonderful article! My highlights: "Recognize that a lot of the behaviors we don’t care for are just coping mechanisms for our dogs and that we should be helping them to cope in acceptable ways; not trying to remove their access to coping." "As Dr. Susan Friedman says, behavior is always a study of one. We should not compare our young dogs to our past dogs, or our friends’ dogs. We must only observe their behavior and respond accordingly. Most of all, we should cherish them."
"Recognize that a lot of the behaviors we don’t care for are just coping mechanisms for our dogs and that we should be helping them to cope in acceptable ways; not trying to remove their access to coping." ^^This ^^ I think perhaps the difficulty in trying to help someone on a forum in a diplomatic manner. Each situation is so different and the more in tune you are with your animal the more in tune it becomes with you. You can't just train your puppy to lay in the corner until you're ready for it and not expect negative behaviours or as stated "coping mechanisms" to arise.
