    Hello all,
I am a new puppy mom and I am at my wits end with my baby girl's pee habit. She is 10 weeks old and able to hold it for almost 4 hours in the night in her crate. However during the day, she pees every 10 minutes, especially in the evening. I can't let her run in the house for more than 8-10 mins without a puddle. Even when I take her outside, she keeps peeing constantly in the grass.

Today, she peed when I was holding her in my arms. I am so distraught. Could it be an UTI...or is this normal for 10 week old puppies. I have to keep her in the crate all the time and I am not able to enjoy her:(

I would get her checked out. It's quite possible she has a UTI. Best to rule that out, anyway. She shouldn't need to pee quite that frequently normally.

If she's peeing in your arms, then I would definitely be concerned about a UTI. These are very common in young puppies.

However, peeing every 15 minutes or so at this age certainly isn't abnormal. In the same way that most humans need to wee more in the daytime than at night, same with your puppy. Everything slows down when they're asleep, so you absolutely can't judge the time she should be able to hold it during the day based on how long she can hold it at night, they're two very different things.

So, yes, get her checked out as soon as possible (go and get a sterile pot from the vet before you take her in, so you can take a sample - I've heard a ladle can be very useful for collecting!), but, if she's given a clean bill of health, you'll have to start taking her out more often, and always after waking, eating, drinking and playing.

Here's an update...my darling girl does not have UTI. That's a relief and also a cause for concern. So, why is she peeing so frequently during the day. She is fine at night when she is in her crate. I am at a loss:(

It's good that you've ruled out the UTI, but I'm sorry to say that you've just got a normal puppy. Mine was the same at that age and it drove me bloody mad. I did everything "right" but she wouldn't stop pissing! Her bladder control was slightly better in the morning, and was almost non-existent from mid-afternoon onwards. She didn't really start having proper control until 12 weeks, it was like a switch flicked and suddenly she got it. At that magic 12 week mark she was able to hold it for 1 hour when she was awake, I thought I'd hit the jackpot. So don't panic and continue following Fiona's @snowbunny's advice on taking her out regularly. Hopefully you've only got a few more weeks and then you'll start seeing an improvement too.

When they are resting their metabolism slows down and they produce less wee. Also they are not drinking as much. When they're active it's the reverse. So that's probably why she can hold on for hours in the crate but can't hold on long at all when she's active and with her people.

Humans are the same. Mostly we can go all night without getting up to wee but we can't last through an equivalent period in the day time without a wee.

Hi everyone, please don't mind, I am really upset today and need to vent. I understand that my girl will be able to hold her pee better with maturity (I can't wait for that day!!) But today, she was peeing every 5-10 mins after coming inside and the final straw was when I lifted her and she peed all over me:(
She will be 12 weeks in a couple of days. I try not to over excite her and play gently with her. The Vet wants to wait and watch for a few weeks and then do an ultrasound of the bladder and kidney

It's a good sign that she's fine at night.

Meanwhile, wear old clothes and take her out as often as is practical. I've never known a 10 week old Lab wee quite so much, but my niece's Springer spaniel did. He was a widdle machine who weed even when you were cuddling him

All will soon be well xx

I think you should notice a definite improvement round about 14 weeks....it seems to be a time when their bladders start to mature and become much more stable....not long now.....

@Priya71 , try and hold on and follow the advice given above, they all get there in in the end, it just seems endless at the time, I know, and actually my Cassie was really good in the house training thing. But I can imagine how you feel.

Keep doing all the things you've been told, and in a few months time all this will have passed. It's probably better that the vets want to wait and see.

They are just little dogs trying to make sense of a human world :)

Good that the vet is going to do an ultrasound.

I don't know if I've mentioned it on this site before but I know a dog who had similar issues and it turned out that her bladder was situated higher up than normal in her pelvis (ie it was up towards her spine rather than down lower). This meant that it didn't have the proper engagement with the nerve that helps to tell the pup when their bladder is distended and they need to wee. Muscle control may have been implicated too. So as a pup and young dog she simply couldn't regulate her weeing and would frequently dribble wee, just like the way you describe with your pup. She's much, much better now. I'm not sure how old she is now but she's over a year old.

At any rate I can totally understand your frustration and stress. If it's a physical problem I'm sure the vet will get to the bottom of it. If it's just a developmental problem she'll grow out of it. Don't despair and hang in there!

By this I mean that I thought she wasn't getting it, but she did :)
