Help!! My boy is 7 months old and so far brought up on Skinners Field and Trial puppy food but he has never really enjoyed it. He is now turning his nose up completely! Considering weaning to a different make etc... any recommendations??

Sorry, no - Coco LOVES his Skinners Field & Trial. Can you try contacting manufacturers for some trial packs?

Hi Jo, it depends on your budget, where you want to buy your food, as well as other variables.
If you buy online, then the world is your oyster.
If you prefer to buy at a local shop, then that narrows down your choice a bit.

And I guess you have to consider that your puppy is just not food orientated - any chance of this?
Sometimes it helps to take a look at the all about dog food website (if you are based in the UK) https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/

I think we all use different food. Best advice is the best food that you can afford that your dog likes and does well on (really helpful eh? :) )

Are you sure the food hasn't gone off? Sometimes a large bag can go stale or mouldy especially near the end when it's been open a few weeks and the weather's been hot and humid.

Good point from @mandyb - this has happened to a couple of forum members at least!

My boy never really enjoyed dry food - we tried everything with him, no treats no human food, and he would eventually would eat some only because he had to. We tried various brands and all flavours in various brands. Eventually when he was about 11 months old we swapped to raw - we initially used the prepared mix with the vegetables in and eventually when we were a bit more confident in what we were doing moved to buying the mince and vegetables so we could give him some variety with the veg. He also gets raw chicken legs, thighs (all still on the bone) and also meaty bones which he loves. He can still be picky and if we have a roast chicken for ourselves we give him a treat and he has a roast dinner just as we do.

Yes, good point - there is a thread on this somewhere. With us, we used to empty the food bag into a plastic dog food holder, which apparently is not recommended and same thing - Quinn started turning her nose up and was reluctant to eat. The plastic can affect the taste/freshness I believe. We didn't change foods - got a new bag and kept it in the bag inside the container. Didn't have any problems after that!

My Malamute never really liked kibble, but he would eat it since there was no alternative. He was a free feeder, and sort of condescended to eating dog food.

All of our labs have been fine with kibble. Tilly might have been a free feeder but Ginger and Cooper would eat most everything in front of them.

We use a big air tight plastic food bin with a screw top, designed for pet food. Since a 24 or 30 lb bag only lasts a couple of weeks, it really doesn't have time to go off, and there does not seem to be any plastic odor.

Yes, my girl was on it for a year or so and done well on it - she has a sensitive tummy, but no issues with this. We only changed as ran out one day and a friend gave us some Barking Heads kibble and Harley went nuts for it.

Only lasted 2 days... Dexter wouldn't eat it! Back to pets at home who exchanged for AVA and gave him small portion and he wolfed it down.... Anyone tried this?

Maisy starting turning her nose up at her Arden Grange kibble, she was 7 months, I followed advice on getting her to eat it again which we got through and which worked to a point (from the Labrador site). But now she will only eat it if I coax her and give it to her in my hands, I thought it might be the bowl but she drinks water from the same type of bowl. She clearly is not enjoying this food and would (and does) happily go without, I am worried she is not getting the right amount of nutrition. She still has her appetite for other things like treats, but these are heavily rationed at the moment to get her to eat her own stuff. It is not working though.

My question is - is she too young for a food change? - she is now 8 months.

Our vet supplies Royal Canin and will refund if your dog does not like it but this is so expensive compared to others.
I am going to look at some of the recommendations on this thread and get some samples.
