We both have some holiday to take and due to circumstances we think next week it will be. I normally spend weeks/months researching where to go in the UK but suddenly don't have that luxury. We are thinking of 4 nights, sat to wed, dog friendly (obvs!) Not in a big town, but maybe close to a pub, ideally not far from a beach, but inland with nice walks would be fine too. I was expecting there to be a lot of last minute deals out there, but the usual websites I use aren't offering much up. Location, anywhere no more than 4 hrs drive from the Midlands Any ideas gratefully received! Thank you
I just don't think you can beat the Lake District with a dog! Grange over sands has a beach but also close enough drive to enjoy the lakes
Shamefully I've never been to the lakes. I do remember looking at Grange over sands a few years ago, is it all dog friendly?
I think pretty much everywhere in the lakes is dog friendly. They're definitely allowed in pretty much every pub. We went last year but stayed near Windermere and Stanley pretty much got the royal treatment everywhere
Have you looked on the site ownersdirect.co.uk ? I have a niece who frequently books through them and has always been happy with the property and I've just booked a few days through them for Saturday, on the south coast. I imagine Dartmoor might be too far but we had a good stay at the Cherrybrook bed and breakfast (with Molly).
We had our first holiday in the lakes this year. Loved it! We stayed in a little cottage in Hartsop, I tiny village/hamlet near Brotherswater. There are no pubs but Patterdale and Brotherswater pubs are walking distance. Many great walks/hikes from the front door. You just need to be careful of the farmers sheep.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I've used owners direct and holiday lettings for overseas holidays, but not for the Uk, so i'm doing some searches now. Trip advisor is coming up with quite a few options, OH is plumping for the South west, seems we can get somewhere in cornwall for 200 -250 for 4 nights, dog friendly, 2 bedrooms, though I am keen to try the lakes. . We had a terrible experience last year with an owner living on site who frequently walked into our own, enclosed garden and generally invaded our privacy, causing a huge family bust up, so am keen to avoid those if possible, though it does rule out quite a few options for smaller properties. I've looked at cottages.com as they accept tesco clubcard vouchers, but think they seem a bit overpriced in the first place. Have used corncott.com for a few cornwall bookings too, they are generally very good but dont have many bargains at the moment. Also have used sykes cottages for a scottish property, but not the cheapest i think.
The Gower Peninsula or the Lleyn Peninsula. There are dog friendly cottages on the Lleyn, small private beach and many inland walks,
