I am writing an article on finding a good dog sitter to take care of your pet on a regular basis whilst you are at work. If anyone would be willing to share their experiences of dog sitters with me, I would be grateful. You can contact me by PM, or pop your name in a reply to this thread and I will email you.

    Many thanks
    Pippa

    Hi Pippa,

I too have often wondered about peoples experiences. In this busy lifestyle we have I suppose there must be a market for this, saves on trauma for Animals going into Kennels etc etc.

I am sure we must have some followers that can give some feedback and look forward to their responses.

    Paul.

    Re: Dog Sitters

    Hi everyone

As both myself and my husband both go out to work, we wanted to ensue we didn't have to rely on anyone to come in and make sure the dogs were ok, if we were at work at the same time (my husband works a set 4 day on and 4 day off shift days and nights) as this occasionally happens....

When we first bought Storm home, I was fortunate enough to work with someone who had recently moved back to Derbyshire and had a Border Collie who had been used to going to work with her husband..but that changed as her husband's job had changed, and they found a kennels local to where we work, who were happy to have a small majority of dogs as day boarders...I think the maximum they take is about 8....

I went to have a look round and slowly introduced Storm to send a few hrs at the kennels leading up to a full day...and it worked an absolute treat, so we did the same when we bought Skye. They are dropped off on my way into work, and picked up on my way home....Some weeks they are in for two days and some weeks only 1 as I'll have half a day flexi for the other day....Both dogs know where they are and are eager to get out of the car and wagging their tails etc...and the same when I collect them.

The Kennel staff are fantastic and treat your dogs as they would their own (in fact the owners are both breeders themselves, 1 of them breeders English and red setters and the other is a field trials judge for Gundogs, and he occasionally will have a litter of labs, Springers or English pointers)....

Although its not the same as having someone come in and walk your dog, I know that they are in safe hands and would suggest this to anyone who lives locally to where I work, who was worried about leaving their dog for long periods of time. I'm not saying this is for everyone, but it certainly works for us.

Cost for a day boarding 1 dog for the day is £10, for two its a negotiate with the owners of the kennels.....We use them occasionally if we go on holiday and can't take them with us..
