Ash is now 8 1/2mths old. He's enrolled on the Dogslife Project so I've religiously weighed and measured him every month to help with their research.
This month's results have been a little odd as he hasn't grown in height at all and weight wise has only put on 1kg. I've been expecting his growth to slow down but not stop altogether. He's fit and well, and to be honest if I wasn't monitoring him I'd probably not have noticed.
Anyone know if this is normal for his age?

I did not track height, but I tracked weight religiously - from 7mts to 8mts, Quinn put on 2lbs (1KG) and each month thereafter approx the same, sometimes less per month, until she turned 1 year. From 1 year to 18 months she put on an additional 6lbs and seems to have settled there as her adult weight. Around 7 months was when her weight gain really slowed, and height even more slowly, so I would think he is right on track! I also remember my "Labrador Retriever growth guide" mentioned the slow down in weight gain after the first 6 months, but they are all a bit different!

Thank you. That's good to know. :)

I have a feeling Ash is going to stay fairly small, he's only 24kg and between 1-2" shorter than Lucan.

I think you'll find Ash continues to grow a bit though. He will certainly continue to gain weight and muscle mass until he is around 18 months or even 2 years old. But as Ashley says, weight and height gain will really slow down from around 8 months.

I reckon they are very much like children , who have times of very slow growth and then, like weeds in a garden , they grow like crazy ! But , they are all so different , big ones, smaller ones , all are lovely x

My breeder said to expect a plateau at about 9 months. ASh seems to be pretty close to that. After 9 months weight gains were much slower.

Axel really slowed down at about 8/9 months. I really did think he was going to be bum high for life. Then only recently I realized that he actually had levelled out at some point, no idea when though! (I never really tracked his height) His weight stopped at 12 months and once he was neutered he lost weight, went from 41.2 kg to 40 kg and stayed at that weight up until about 16/17 months old. This is when he noticeable started filling out. He is now 44.5kg at 20 months old.

Red is just 9 months and 18kg. I had her weighed yesterday as I do each month. She had lost 300g. I was really surprised. Weren't concerned at the Vets but said to take her to be weighed again in two weeks. She is a very long dog (I suppose that is her gun dog parentage) and quite skinny. She is also a bit taller than our older Lab Sky but she is a small Lab so we expected that.

Thanks everyone. It seems he's normal then...well as normal as a Lab can be. LOL!

That made me laugh, I remember thinking exactly the same when Lucan was a pup! I'd heard people say about pups being bum high but never experienced it with any of my previous pups, then along came Lucan! My goodness, he looked quite peculiar at times!

Oban was like that too but it seemed to happen overnight. We got up one morning and his rear legs seemed to have grown an inch overnight, but not his front. He was all downhill from there. LOL.
