The last little while I've noticed Ariel frothing a little bit while we're training on her walks. I've changed from treating her with cheese bits as it seemed to be worse (and she was throwing up a bit so am wondering about lactose intolerance). I'm now treating her with harder type treats - the frothing is much less, but is still there, especially if we're keeping a good pace. Anyone else have a similar experience?
Yep my boy froths sometimes when he's exerting himself on our walks. I believe (hope!) it's totally normal, like human athletes who sometimes need to spit out saliva while they're running/exerting themselves. My boy tends to froth more when it's hot out - maybe it's a cooling mechanism?
Sometimes I do notice a bit of frothing around her mouth, I too use cheese on walks, I haven't really seen it then I don't think. But it does happen when I spread her food outside, I assume because she is sniffing and chomping for longer.
Yes, we started noticing it last year when she was becoming an older puppy last summer (and worrying, of course). She seems to froth when she is hot or is running a lot, so I bring water with us on longer walks and it seems to help.
It's a relief to know others are experiencing it as well. Thanks for responding. It certainly isn't enough that I would bother the vet at this point, but I don't remember any of our previous dogs doing this. Feeling much better now.
Willow does. She's quite a drooly dog and when she breathes through it, it froths up. Perfectly normal, even though she looks rabid
It's excitement. Tatze and Zaba used to have long white frothy strings all over them during a walk. Not so much now that they are a bit older.
Sam is also a foamy frothy drooler , its gross at times , but its just the way it is ! He is at his worst when excited over a retrieve or the beach , doesn't take much !
