    Hi Everyone,

Joey is now 16 weeks and after crate training him, we have invited him to sleep on the bed with us (which we are fine with) but for the last week he has been waking up at 4-5am insisting we get up and go outside with him. When we do he is happy to sleep outside, only if we stay outside with him. If we bring him back in, he just stays up and will bite our faces/arms to get us to stay up.

We've tried crossing our arms and turning our backs on him and we've tried ignoring him (which is hard to do when a lab is going for your face).

We understand that he is a puppy and wanting to play, but getting woken up every morning around 4-5 is starting to impact me. Just wondering if you guys have any advice?

We've been told by numerous people and even the vet that we have such a great lab, that is so laid-back and calm. However, the time in the morning is making us go crazy!

    Hi and welcome,

Joey sounds just like a normal lab at 16weeks. Couple of things spring to mind
Not sure how dark your room is, but it could be that it is getting lighter now that moving into spring?
Or is a neighbour or something moving/leaving at that time.

Othethings is to either put him in a crate or play pen amd go back to bed and see what happens. He might fall back to sleep for an hour?

    Hi Sven,
Thanks for your advice. It is getting lighter, but we have shutters on our windows so it stays dark until we open them.

We have tried to put him back in his crate but he cries until we get up. Once we tried to ignore him and he continued to cry for 40 mins. He usually wakes me up at 3 to go to the toilet then will fall asleep for about an hour then wakes up again! Hopefully he just outgrows it!

He will outgrow it eventually, but like we have discovered Vanilla is now waking up early as it is getting light or if next door leaves earlier than normal (and she had outgrown it).

Other thing is his crate in your bedroom? If not maybe try that and see if it will work. Sometimes it is purely that they want to be in same room but not necessarily on same bed
