Poor barley has cut his paw again. no problem when we were walking, he walked fine with no problem, then we got back i was taking of my coat then noticed there was blood on the floor, followed the trail and there was barley lying there licking his cut paw, i washed his paw with salt water then bandaged it up, he would not let me get a proper look at his foot, but i will try to get a better look tommorow. i did not want to poke his foot around too much as before he has been aggressive when he has hurt himself, so i did not want to push him to far, he was already uncomfortable with me just holding his foot so i could bandage it up. I then he to go around the house cleaning up all of the blood that he had left of the floor. Still don't know how he done, or when he done it as he did not as always make a sound or even limp, so he can be a tough boy at times then others he turns into a big baby
Re: he has done it again Hope it's not too bad, Annabelle....cuts on the pad can be tricky...let us know how it goes....
Re: he has done it again Ah Barley, what have you done!i hope he lets you get a look at it Annabelle, you've acted quick wrapping it up so I'm sure it will heal well, let us know do you think it's a visit to the vet? X
Re: he has done it again Ok, he showed his true side last night He turned into a growling, moaning, snarling grumpy mess :'( :'( No one could go near him without him growling and guarding his sore foot :-\ Not the first time he has done this, but this time it was a lot worse, he snapped at puzzle twice, only because she walked past him , he did have the cone on, but we had to take this off and persuade him with cheese and ham to get his muzzle on, he calmed down quite a lot once his muzzle was on, so we could unbandage his paw and get a better look at it (as dad was home now, so he could restrain him). What he has managed to do it cut the inside of his foot, not on the pad on the flesshy bit behind on of his toes ( i will try to post a pic tonight, i hope ), all around the cut it is all bruised and a little bit swollen, so it is qite sore, it is only a small cut, almost like a paper cut, it is about 1/2 long, it is not too deep, but we will have to keep an eye on it to make sure that it does not get infected. He is limping a lillt bit walking around the house, he had to suffer with 2 poo bags around his foot last night when he went outside, as he chewed the boot we did have :. He was a bit m,ore subdued this morning, he still had to be muzzled so that i could wash it out with salt water again. he had his cone on overnight which did not bother him at all, because he is soo used to it now. he is supposed to be going to dog training tonight, but depending on how he is when i get back from school, we probably will not go, just so he can rest. This episode is also a reminder that i need to update my first aid kit and fill my house one back up again, and know where the spare keys to the car are, as his main first aid kit is in the car. Sorry for the essay, i needed to offload all of this stuff to clear my head a bit
Re: he has done it again He may need to see the vet for antibiotics, if he was mine that is what I would do. I had a GSP once and she managed to cut all four paws at various times in her life!
Re: he has done it again
He may need to see the vet for antibiotics, if he was mine that is what I would do. I had a GSP once and she managed to cut all four paws at various times in her life!
This is about his 6th cut paw, and he has cut all of them now. We have never taken him to the vet for a cut paw, he never cuts them seriously enough to need vet treatment, we keep them clean and let them heal in there own time
Re: Cut paw (again) Looking like a vet visit on monday, poor boy. The cut keeps weeping and has not scabbed over at all, he is also getting very concerned about his foot being touched. i have been washing it twice a day and applying anti bacterial cream to it twice a day, but i think he needs antibiotics, and he has made the rest of his foot sore, by licking
Re: Cut paw (again) very wise to get a vet visit,....................you do an amazing job, ....first cut for jasper i would have to go straight to the vets
Re: Cut paw (again) Ah Annabelle ,I hope you are managing ok?Treating wounds and bloodied areas are very close to my heart at the moment !i am very lucky for as long as Dexter is pretty much fed kibble biscuits by hand he will lie on his bed as still as anything and let you do whatever you want,I know Barley is a bit bothered by being handled and not surprising really when he has hurt himself .it can be a tricky job though so good luck and let us know how he is today x
Re: Cut paw (again) It is still weeping and sore today, he is now anticipating his foot getting cleaned and will hide under the table, thinking if i cant see her then she cant see me :. Puzzle was very unhelpful this morning when i was cleaning his foot, she started off by stuffing her cuddly bear in barleys face, when i put the muzzle on him, she then proceeded to steal the towel to dry his foot with, then tip over the bowl of salt water i wash washing his foot in, then try to lick all of the water up, then she insisted on giving me kisses as i was applying cream to his foot, so all in all she is one very helpful mut :
Re: Cut paw (again) Ha ha yes,she was trying to be your vet assistant I think, she's practicing her first responder skills for when She starts her SAR training! X

X
Yes she is, licking everything better, and running off with the first aid kit, she would be a very good first responder
