A hearing dog for the deaf ! Yes, truly he has, only the deaf one is also a dog, Nelly ! The small one has learned to keep pretty close to me but on the odd occasion , as her confidence has grown , she will foray into the undergrowth or decide to check out a new path and woe betide my attention should wander ! So , I`ve been practising , and now , I just have to call Sam to heel , and say " Go get Nelly " and he`s off , goes straight to her and herds her back onto the straight and narrow ! Don't get me wrong , she is never out of my sight, just that I thought it a good exercise to teach the big lad, just in case, and he loves his extra responsibility , taking it all very seriously and of course, he gets a sea biscuit for his trouble ! Will ask my grandchildren to show me how to take a video ( how pathetic is that ) xx
I can only imagine how darling Sam is doing this for Nelly. Hearing Sam and Nelly stories makes me so happy
Wonderful story, Sam and Nell are such a pair! I had a little foster chihuahua who was adopted by a couple with a deaf pointer and she did the same for the pointer. When my dog Mama Jodhi went deaf with age, Brogan would actually grab her by the collar and haul her back when I would call for them to come. Dogs are amazing!
At training class we have a Staffie that is from a rescue society and has had a rough past. She is nervous and anxious and every class she has an elderly JRT who accompanies her. They don't stick hip to hip but Rollo (JRT) is a stable sense of security for Mya. Animals are really phenomenal.
Nice to read and see that Sam is such a good boy. I wonder what they talk about on their way back once he has got her? If you could let me know that would be great Maybe a 'mum wants us back now she has a special treat'
