I wanted to get any thoughts and advice on using e collars that vibrate or shock to help with unwanted barking when you are not at home

please Don't get one they are cruel and unnecessary. They will hurt your dog and relationship with your dog and diminish you as a person.

Don't use one. They're unethical. You'll end up with a neurotic and scared dog.

Do tell us about the barking issue though - maybe we can help with some training or management advice that will work :)

They are illegal in many countries for good reason; they are cruel and unnecessary.

I echo Rachael - give us some more information and let's see if we can help find a better solution.
