I found kikopup YouTube channel yesterday. Slow I know. : previously I'd been finding them on the main YouTube. I searched for nervous aggression and found a vid about counter conditioning. The example was a problem very similar to mine. The dog was scared of people/dogs. You can imagine my amazement when I watched it to find I'd actually been working on the problem correctly!!!!!!! . Even the bit were she warned not to make the same mistake she had by making sure the predictor for the treat was the person/dog and not you rooting for food. My two definitely see the person/dog as the predictor if we meet on a bend or something and I haven't had chance to get treats out they will both nudge my hands looking for the treat as we pass the person/dog. I admit that is pure luck. I decided to use tasty treats when we meet people in the hope they would associate treats with strangers not fear I didn't know it was the right thing to do. Wow
Re: Blowing my own trumpet Thats great Jen, its so comforting to know that we`re going down the right path
Re: Blowing my own trumpet Well done Jen! I probably missed it in your posts, but what's the problem with your two? Fear of strangers and strange dogs? Ah, I think I remember now - due to painful treatment of a problem when they were young?
Re: Blowing my own trumpet That's right Julie well remembered. ;D Im not usually one to blow my own trumpet but I thought the forumers (think just made that word up ) would appreciate how fab it is to find out for once you've got it right especially as its the first time I've had to deal with quite a major behaviour problem. (oops this should be in the behaviour section : ) Here at home when I've told people I don't think they really get it. I'll go and do some clicker training now that will bring me straight back down with a bump I'm sure. ;D ;D ;D
Re: Blowing my own trumpet Well done, Jen, that's great. It's lovely to be able to tell forum people about success - and everyone know it's important. My OH is hopeless, if I tell him something good eg Charlie didn't run round with the dummy quite as badly as normal, he'll say something like "but it's good fun to run round with the dummy. Stop spoiling his fun...". :
Re: Blowing my own trumpet Well done Jen,when you put the time in as we know you do it's a great feeling when something goes well! ;D Pardon the pun but things seem to be 'clicking' really well...keep up the good work and then the rewards are so much sweeter x
