Hey everyone, My puppy Pearl is five months now... What does everyone do in regard to getting their pups into the car? Technically they're not suppose to be jumping up because if the development of their bones...
I tried to lift my pup in and out of the car as often as possible- the only times I didn't were when she jumped in or out before I could stop her. I still do even now she's 1! She's small so it's not a problem lifting her and I'm still anxious about her joints, although I don't know if I should be now!
My puppy has just turned 7 months and I'm still lifting her into the car boot, I suppose I will do it until she gets too heavy, or maybe when she is a year old?
My puppy is 10 months old and I am still lifting her into the car. She was in a crate until recently and I lifted her in and out. Now she is sitting on the back seat in her harness, I lift her in and onto the back seat - she is very wary of doing it herself. She will climb down and jump out. I do find her heavy to lift but I know at some point she will get in herself .
We lifted Holly for the first 18 months or so, then let her jump into the car. We don't let her jump out, though there has been the odd occasion when she's so excited to see a friend that she has jumped without permission!
My adult dog jumps in and out of the car. It's an estate car, so the tailgate is low. Whilst he's generally a loopy nutter, he's quite gentle getting in and out, more like he steps out. He also jumps in and out of OH's truck, which is high. Again, he's gentle when he does it. I don't know if he was taught in his first home, or if he's just decided it's the most comfortable way. He's also gentle getting on and off the bed - he slithers off, dragging his legs behind him - except when he's having the zoomies!
I boost in and lift out. Oban is ten years old. I've seen too many slips in snow and loose gravel to allow him to jump either direction on his own. My sister is of the same opinion but she carries a little step stool to use in her lower car. I tried a ramp, too fiddly and slow and took up a lot of room inside the vehicle.
